Yes Google voice worked for verification without unlocking it once get device pay $3 to unlock GV for porting or try activate with new number YMMV or port different number on activate page.

These Automatically unlock with only 1 month service after Activation on 60th day can confirmed unlock date by texting UNLOCK to 611611

About the GV number, as far as I know only Metro by T-Mobile just changed their rule in October by considering the port-in of GV number as a new number for any promotion which is not that bad It is better than paying the full price of the phone because as a new number, Metro will give a lot of discount for the phone.

Just got my 2nd Moto Edge shipped for $30 plus $20 tax. Does anyone know how to activate it before it's delivered with a new number while it's shipping. I tried to just go to the total wireless activate page, but it's asking for an imei number which I don't have yet since the phone is still in transport.

After I activated the first one I went to my account and did the same thing to order my 2nd phone. I used another GV number to port. When you choose the $65 plan for the 2nd phone it discounts to $30 when you checkout.

Tello doesn't let you port out instantly after eSIM activation, at least not from the website. Takes 72 hrs or so for port out info to be available.
