Or, I can just fish what's comfortable to me. Especially since it's really easy to find a baitcaster with either hand retrieve.

In practical terms this actually makes zero sense.

If you are right handed, having the handle on the left side makes most sense. In this way your dominate hand is the hand controlling the rod, providing the action. Plus, casting with one hand then switching the rod to the other also makes zero sense.

But I don't care, I know most people are right hand dominate and most use baitcasters with the handle on the right side...whatever works for you, but to say you didn't learn correctly is just ignorant.

I got my first baitcaster (left handed) over 30 years ago as a teenager. After having used spin cast and spinning reels as a kid, I tried both right and left handed baitcasters and decided that LH retrieve was best for me. Anyone who insists there is a "correct" retrieve hand for casters is just silly.

I'd perfer a left handed, but I might have to give this a go as I've been wanting a baitcaster to play with... Nice deal!

For baitcasters they refer to them as 'right handed' when the reel handle is on the right side correct?

Yes. Right handed means you reel in the life with your right hand.

Yes, he's saying he reels with the handle on the left.

That's like saying that right handed people who bat left-handed didn't learn batting properly.

It's just a preference and has a lot to do with your preference for which hand you like to use to control the rod, as that is actually the more important aspect of fishing.

Many fisherman prefer to reel with their non dominant hand to avoid switching rod hand after casting.

Junk. Don't buy a cheap bait caster or you're going to be frustrated and you won't be fishing very long after you birds nest.

I have one of these and its perfect for a kid to learn on. Plenty smooth and feels pretty good quality especially for the price. It does feel a little plasticky but I would never hesitate to put it to use, cant beat it at this price, buy one and rig it up with a rod for a good beater setup.
