My take is that the 3800 is the "Slickdeal's darling" because it's 90-95% of the 4800 w/o the additional hundreds of dollars (they even share the same DAC and have the same Dirac functionality)!

Unfortunately you're not going to use that SVS to its potential especially if you use streaming content which is what a soundbar is designed for.
I've set up many soundbars and the one thing you sacrifice is sound quality.
That should not be a surprise since soundbars are designed for simplicity and convenience, that's what you are paying for.
It's not about high speaker count, a 5.1 speaker based setup will easily give you better SQ than a some 11.1.4 Atmos soundbar or even a Sonos.
Proper implementation is key and that's the main reason there are so many of you.
The irony here is the very complaint you have with AVRs is what a soundbar is built on...technology.
TBH I get more people reaching out to me with soundbar issues than the speaker based system. Just look at the soundbar threads in here for those issues.
BTW when you brought up soundbars couldn't resist yanking clueless JonathanJ's chain!
Makes judgements because of measurements "facts" then turns around and says "sometimes simplicity and convenience rules them all"!
As you can see you'll always get those people that say they are "impressive" and "it's not far off from your traditional 5.1 avr install in terms of sound quality"! 🙄

wondering, when I run with Audyssey calibration, since it has the XT-32 flavor, when it calibrates the sub, will I need to move my subwoofer? only asking b/c its been like 8 yrs since I ran Audssey setup, but my older Marantz AVR only had the XT flavor of Audyssey so no sub calibration. and back then there was talks of doing a sub crawl but I didn't really do that but did move it from 1 place to another within the room.
and then did the manual spl meter and forgot what other settings.
anyhow, I can probably find a video online about it, but just wanted to see how easy it is to setup the sub....which I hope is easy, since that was one of the benefits of getting an AVR with XT-32 with sub calibration.
TIA!

Now this can be a challenge in the average home especially if the sub has a large footprint.
Often you have to compromise and make it work the best you can.
A sub crawl is a good idea and kind of do it the way you did just listen where you would realistically be willing to place the sub.
Run Audyssey and if it sounds good to you, you're done, that's all that matters.
I would highly suggest using the $20 editor app preferably on a tablet/laptop.
Allows you to make adjustments you normally wouldn't be able to, worth the cost imo.

I have a monoprice monolith 15" sub. Thing is deeper than my sofa. If I do the subwoofer crawl, should I face the speaker on the sub toward my screen or toward the back of the sofa? I sit about 7 feet from my screen so having the speaker face the screen puts the speaker much closer to the screen than where my ears are.
Which settings should I turn off when running audyssey? Dynamic EQ?
I currently have the sub at +5 db after running audyssey. Does that sound safe for the sub?
When you mention using the denon app, are you just tweaking by ear?
Thanks!

Here are two videos that should help.
1st is pretty basic, 2nd has more information on why.
Adjustments are all personal, trying to do them on a phone is a big challenge.
That is why it's better to use a tablet or laptop with the app.
Subs are omni directional so technically shouldn't matter.

The 3700 never hit that mark and this is better.
