While this machine should play esports titles at reasonable frame rates at FHD, there have been multiple deals in the last month for laptops featuring better CPUs (AMD Ryzen 7840HS/**40HS) and better GPUs (RTX 4060) in the $650-$750 range although most of those deals were for open box or refurbished laptops.

Review: https://www.trustedreviews.com/re...-gf63-thin
Pros:
  • RTX 4050 GPU has DLSS for improved framerates.
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM is upgradeable to 64GB.
  • FHD Screen with 144Hz refresh rate works for eSports titles.
Cons:
  • Older CPU is not as powerful or energy efficient as more modern CPUs.
  • DDR4 RAM is slow (3200Mhz vs 5600Mhz for DDR5)
  • RTX 4050 is a low end GPU. 4060 opens up 1440 gaming options.
  • Screen is dim at 250 Nits and only has 45% NTSC color coverage.
  • 1 USB-C 3.2 port, No USB-C charging.
  • 5.5 hours battery life.
I would personally hold out for a similar price for a newer Intel CPU or an AMD 78XX/88XX CPU and an RTX 4060 GPU which will provide significantly better gaming performance into the future.

If I was going to buy this machine as a budget eSports laptop I would target a price of $450-$550 considering the other deals we have seen recently and Black Friday approaching.

While I agree with the general direction of this post, I can't recommend any Dell after the one I bought (G15 5520) had permanent overheating problems. Even with an additional cooler external would help reduce temps, it always is at risk to overheat anytime I play a game and the system turns off. Never again Dell. I don't trust them to have adequate cooling; which is even more of a problem the more powerful the system = more heat in a small laptop. So, my advice after my experience is with any laptop check for reports on cooling problems otherwise the specs on paper are useless if the system can't stay running. Just my .02

Dell makes a lot of different laptop models which all have their strengths and weaknesses.

I appreciate your personal experience with a particular Dell model wasn't great, but I'm not sure I would consider that information useful for this completely different model. So I'll take your advice and check for reports on cooling problems with this specific laptop model.

From the review I linked:

"And thanks to the relatively low-powered CPU and GPU the single cooling fan doesn't have to work too hard or run too loud to keep everything cool."

So I wouldn't worry about overheating in this particular model. I would be more concerned that the GPU is not provided very much power (35-45 Watt) resulting in lower performance than you might expect from this GPU with a higher wattage TDP (up to 105 Watt in other models).

Low end MSI gaming laptops are notorious for falling apart.

On top of that, this features literally the worst screen of any modern gaming laptop, the 4050 is severely power limited, and the CPU is slow.

It doesn't even support USB charging.

Spend just $8 more on the Lenovo LOQ: much better screen(better color and brightness), faster CPU, higher GPU power, bigger battery, an additional m.2 SSD slot, USB charging, and it won't fall apart on you after a year.

Stay away from Acer Nitro series, horrible build, some keyboard keys stopped worked, the hinge straight up broke and now I can't close the laptop anymore!

Good to know, thanks for posting your experience. What year Acer Nitro was this?

Sure bud anytime, it's an older model from 2018 Acer Nitro 5, I can probably fix it but I shouldn't have to do that. I've read of others having this issue as well, not sure if it's a generation type of thing, where it gets passed down to future models.

I've always seen my model, goes on sale for refurbished, well their's usually a reason why.

Good points. Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I sounded a bit unfair to Dell. Not trying to cancel them just was highly disappointed in my case. It could be that the G15 series just had overheating issues and it's contained more to that lineup. For further clarification, it's the CPU that would easily spike well past 90+ Celsius and shut down. The GPU cooling was actually very good in contrast.

Yeah with the prices I've seen some 4060 laptops go for, there's no reason to get a 4050

Just a heads up that MSI Lappy power supplies have only 6 months warranty irrespective of the warranty on the Laptop.
