How does this compare to omada gateway or festa?
Every one my experiences with Tp-Link stuff more than a $10 unmanaged switch has been a disaster. Omada stuff a few years back was terrible and unbaked. A travel router bought recently (see the SD thread, I posted reviews) has been a disaster also, for VPN etc.

Made me appreciate the Unifi stuff, for all it's (mainly pricing) flaws..

hmm. other than any access point controls, yes I guess.. The gateway is the gateway/router. It's gotten realy good now, I replaced my PfSense with it finally and am very happy with single app/control. Dual Wan, VPN (wireguard, openvpn, teleport) all work fairly well. I have the UCG ultra + three APs and a few unifi switches, all with VLANs and guest etc. common management interface. Contyroller also running in the same box is good. I want maximum simplicity with fewest hardware points of failure. Used to have a self-hosted controller on Debian VM on Esxi etc. Finally everything on one simple box.
I kind of miss feeling like a Ubermensch with the zillion parts in the network stack/home-lab, but it's good to have a simple white box instead..
Primarily, I'm interested in setting up VLANs and perhaps some NAT. Still new to the world of networking, so I need to make sure these 2 work before pulling the trigger on this gateway.

Thanks for the input. So functionally these are the same, correct? I guess the premium is for reliability and overall more streamline experience? If Unify better functionally?

Bought it. What is this for?
Just an over priced WIRED router that has a few extra functionality (dashboards, security cameras) that ties into Ubiquiti, does not even have wifi, so you have to spend another $100 if your making a home network from scratch, not to mention cost of additional storage.

Fan boys love this stuff! Not for your average household at all, as even the $15-20 Triband Linksys router when it comes to pure routing will be just as good if not better....

Used Omada gear, and has worked flawless in the past for me, so peoples experiences will vary... Their AP's were one of the best you could get for the price surpassing the Ubi stuff...... Setup a few apartment buildings and SMB locations with the gear and no issues....

If you don't need UniFi protect then the cloud gateway ultra is a steal at $130.
But I need the 2.5Gbps ports though…

Thanks OP!! Been waiting for this for a while now. If I don't need NVR, since I have a dedicated box for it, do I still need the tray? Are there other applications that requires the SSD?

OP, while protect is great there is no support for motion events with ONVIF (yet), you'll be losing a lot moving from Blueiris
Can you already use non-UniFi cameras with Protect now? Was under impression you needed to use their own cameras?

Yes, with the 5.x version of protect. ONVIF is supported but just viewing and recording no motion alerts.

So useless, than! Lol the motion is what tells us to check the cameras.

People upgrading their Ubiquiti gear to something like USG Max or UDM etc for 2.5 Gbps speed should be aware that your Unifi APs are still a bottleneck. If you are running a wired network device such as PC/Mac it is okay but most of the devices now a days are wireless.

I used to love uifi products because of their software and reliability. They actually use cheap hardware. Most of their switches and routers have issues with ports suddenly stopped working. I had that happen to me on my router and two switches. These are so prone to power surges, you really need to plug them into a UPS. Honestly, just buy a small mini PC and turn it into a router and pair it with an unmanaged switch of your choosing. There's better open source software out there.
Is there though? For ease of use how does this comare with OPNsense?

Just buy the UCG ultra then, nice and cheap and like I said, runs at 4W.. unless you really need 2.5G switching. I personally am not seeing 2.5G value, other than "why not?" .. I'm wondering if 2.5G devices also consume more power for no good reason.. I don't know why, but I think Unifi gear consumes too much idle power, especially their switches, and they run hot..

Good to know.. As always, experience is never uniform across all features. Omada is literally copied from Unifi, and a few years back when I saw the Dual-wan gateway was really excited and tried it out. sent it back after frustration.
But for the use-cases if things work, it's great to have multiple options other than Unifi.. Unifi itself has come a long way, especially for the Router/Gateway and finally this year a very viable all-in-one system. Having all unifi switches/APs and having to have a different gateway like PfSense or EdgeRouter etc. was quite a pain.

Everyone who wants to know more should follow Tom @ lawrencesystems, great guy and resource.. I think they always used to use Unifi for everything but the gateway.. i think they're now open to using the gateway now (?) ,
