We have several of the older ones. They are tanks. Still going strong after years and we use them often

I think the old version veritical form factor with the handle on top is better than this new one

Also I don't like the recent reviews which are stating customers are running into issues where it reads a high pressure too quickly and shuts off, but then moments later the pressure will settle back down to what it really is at. (ie it goes to 20 really quick, but then moments later reads 17). Examples:

Just bad from top to bottom
I can't STAND this inflator. I have a previous model with right angle clamp-to-close valve. This new straight on, sleeve connector is infuriating. It doesn't fit as well with many tight spaces and, but unless I do some magic rain dance, the connection LEAKS. It takes several tries to get it on right. The inflator will fill to 20psi, but leave it for a moment and it'll read 17. The nozzles hiding in the battery compartment are really easy to miss.

Version Before This One Was Better
I have had 3 versions of this air inflator/deflator and this one is the worst due to the air chuck on the end. It is very difficult to get to stay on the nipple of the tire you are trying to inflate. Also, the adapter for blowing up basketballs and other products needing a needle to pump them up wont work with this air chuck. The version before this had a screw on air chuck and it was superior in every way to this version.
by

Poor quality connector
The quick connect connector on the inflator works very poorly. By the time I get it properly connected to the tire, the tire is deflated considerably. I didn't know it had this type of connector which is a cheap plastic connector. I have other products with this type of connector, but have never had one this difficult to connect. Definitely would not recommend this item!! I have the pistol grip style inflator made by Ryobi and wanted another one, but it is no longer available.

It shows wrong psi when using high pressure hose. And there is literally no showing of psi when you use the high volume hose and it is so weak that it can't even fully inflate my pvc boat which requires only 3.5 psi! Totally unexpected.

Not as good as the previous model
I purchased this inflator today and was excited to try it out. I own the previous model and the one before that. I really like the high pressure connector because it's quick and doesn't need to be screwed on. I really dislike how when you inflate a tire the it stops too soon. For example, I have a bike tire I want at 20psi. The inflator fills it to what it says is 20psi, and then shuts off. If you wait about 10 seconds after that the pressure on the display drops down 3psi lower. by

Was thinking maybe of buying the new version to give it a try (can't hurt to have another inflator).
We will be passing on this

I have this and it has worked very well. I love that I can set the desired air pressure and it auto stops. However, I need to say that the first couple tires are always a little off. Typically, over inflated. I would recommend using a tire pressure guage after it stops to confirm/correct PSI. Having said that, this is a great tool at a great price. I wouldn't definitely buy and again and recommend to family.

Like many here, I have and love the previous model (two of them, in fact). This one looks a little bulkier, but two potential improvements are the quick connect chuck (I added one to the screw connector on my old models) and the fact that the high volume hose wraps more gently around the square shape. The 180° bends in the previous model have proven prone to cracking over time in both of mine (remedied with self-sealing tape). Assuming the core functionality is the same across both models, I would not hesitate to recommend this--and in fact, encourage every car owner to carry one in their trunk. Once you no longer have to drive around looking for a gas station with a working air pump (paid or otherwise), you are truly free.

EDIT: Posted this moments after the previous comment mentioned the chuck on this one being troublesome. Womp womp. I will say that a lot of chucks are fiddly--it's just part of the tradeoff of convenience--but I have found the most reliable to be the lever action type (which is what I added to my older models).
Any chance you can provide a link for the quick connect chuck you got? I'd love to try one. It's a PITA screwing that hose on to Schrader valves.

Not to high-jack but there's a high pressure only inflator for $30 as well. With the lever connector, instead of the quick connect. Smaller too but not as ergonomic like the one with the handle. Which I think is on its last leg. I had some white smoke coming out of it and getting that overheating smell. It still works but I reduce its usage to prevent overheating. With that said, we all ryobi collectors never shy away from overlapping tools. It's always safe practice to have one in each car. Smilie

Bought this last week and returned it. It's not the same as the previous model. Inflated my truck tire from 40-65 psi. It took 20 minutes and the pump can only be run for 5 minutes on and 5 minutes off. It overheats and smells like burnt rubber. Read the reviews on HD - I didn't believe them but this thing is very light duty.

Bought one from the last deal, they delivered toilet bowl cleaner instead. After talking to customer service they told me I had to go to the store to return it. Makes no sense.

This or the "high volume inflator"? How is the noise level on this comparatively? I have the handheld high pressure inflator, and that thing is LOUD.

How does the Ryobi compare with the Dewalt 20V MAX Cordless Electric Portable Inflator [homedepot.com]?

Is it worth twice the price?

Bought it and then returned it. Pressure gauge isn't accurate at all, so the tires were off by like 4-5 PSI. Takes too long to inflate tires. It was also getting hot from light duty inflating. Didn't try out the high volume function.

Could you do kayaks?
yes and no

I have the older model and it will fill my kayak's sections quite fine up to a certain point. The inflator looses steam once it reaches certain pressure and cant fill the kayak up to the required pressure. I have to use the manual pump to finish up filling up the kayak.

Air mattresses, pool toys, car tires, it works great on all of these. I stopped using a 1lb tank compressor I had and just use this.

How does this compare to the https://slickdeals.net/f/17837358-ryobi-pcl001b-18v-high-pressure-inflator-tool-only-29-97-homedepot?src=SiteSearch which I just bought? I can't find inflation speed comparisons for car tire use

Likewise, bought it and returned it. In addition to: tried connecting the ball inflating needle that came along but kept disconnecting/unsnapping out. Took 3 tries. And for previous model (maybe just me), I can and usually keep the battery plugged-in, place all neatly back into original box for quick use (i.e. kids' bikes, cars and motorhome, volleyballs, etc...) but this newer model can't do that. 3rd reason, this new model is missing the carry-handle.

Got this tool recently because my pistol grip high pressure inflator's hose burst. The quick connect chuck is indeed a PITA. Furthermore, the presta/schrader valve adapter this comes with is absolute dogshit. The collar is too short and the coupling stands to far off the valve. I cannot get it to connect without leaking. I just used another one I had lying around and it worked fine, but something to keep in mind.
