Nice! Thank you OP - finally an AMEX deal good on my card!

Equivalent of 6.67%cb ($20/$300 = 6.67%)
Best way to optimize:
- Buy two $300 gift cards in separate transactions.
- Use them on any normal purchases where your best cashback credit card doesn't have a great bonus. As an example, if you use it on a transaction where you would only get 1% cash back, using the gift card gets you an extra 5.67%cb. If you use it on an Amazon purchase where your amazon card gets you 5%, that's only an extra 1.67%cb.
How to add all AMEX deals to your card:
Use Chrome, on a computer (not mobile)
Go to Amex site.
View all offers.
Copy and paste this Javascript function into the URL:
javascript:btns=.filter(b => b.textContent === 'Add to Card');c=()=>{ b = btns.shift(); if (!b) return; b.click(); setTimeout(c, Math.random() * 300) };c();
Wait a minute or two. The function clicks every button that reads 'Add to Card' and it takes a couple minutes to run if you have 100 offers.
The function is secure. Your amex data is not being sent anywhere.
I have had a similar experience with AmEx gift cards where they get locked or there's a hold that prevents you from extracting full value from the card. Very difficult to use anywhere, and the service is terrible. AmEx outsourced their gift cards to some company and just slaps their logo on it, but the service is outrageous for AmEx standards. I would stay away, not worth the hassle.

I got the offer. This makes sense while traveling incase you lose your wallet and someone goes on a shopping spree with you Amex Blue Cash card. Happened to me 2 weeks ago
I just purchased a $300 gift card. I had assumed this gift card purchase would be using up $300 of my available Reward Dollars balance. It does not!
That is unlike every other credit card transaction of store gift cards that I have done on my other Visa/MC credit card accounts. Buying gift cards would be the best way to use up my available points/rewards balance.
Now I'm sorry I did this purchase.
Why are you not "Already" cashing out your Reward Dollars to cash as a statement credit? It had to take forever to get up to $300 in rewards. I do it everytime I hit $25 or so in rewards
checked where it all worked fine on my last card, medical bills, cvs, walgreens dell asics gamestop, case-mate and... some school related websites.. got decliend for google services, utility bills, health care supplies website...
Have you successfully used an Amex e-gift card at Amazon? It won't work for me all, even after the authorization charge drops off. I also can't use it to pay my internet, phone, nor insurance.
That's what I plan to do except some of these prepaid GC's will hold an authorization ($1ish) and then when the large purchase is attempted (e.g. the full value of the GC), it's declined because it's over the prepaid limit. In these cases you can try putting in a charge for, e.g. $199 on a $200 value in anticipation that the hold is $1 and it might go through, but you're leaving $1 on the card.
And that's on top of some places not accepting AE to begin with.
Personally I hate prepaid CC because then I need to remember to use it, then remember the balance (or check it online), it's easier just to liquidate it to a store GC that I know I'm going to use anyway.
Thanks for the info. I was able to use both my $25 cards at Amazon by charging $24 each. I will take the $2 loss. Better than letting the cards sit around my desk.
Funny, I just tried a $100 reload and it worked this time. I've tried a few times before, last time in June. Transaction at amexgiftcard .com shows a $0.10 pending charge followed by a $100 pending charge. Now to wait for the $.10 to drop before unloading the rest.

I kept waiting (for years!) for an AMEX offer to purchase a retailers gift card at a 15-20% discount, which is what I do with my other credit card rewards. That has always been the best use of them. I suppose it has finally sunk in to me that AMEX never offers bonuses like that!

If you do that and forgo this promo, you will not get the $30
I meant today I would now do 2 steps, since I have a rerwards balance.
1) I bought the $300 gift card, thereby I did earn the $20 credit
2) Now, I'll do the transfer of $300 from my rewards balance over to my bill balance as a credit.
Net result is same as directly buying a gift card using points/rewards as done on MC/Visa accounts.
Last year I had a similar offer from Amex. I purchased the Gift cards and they get rejected everywhere. Finally worked on couple of transactions on Amazon, then stopped working. It is almost impossible to contact Amex Gift card customer service. Automated message says transaction is declined for my security. Card balance shows correct Amount, what is the use, if I cannot use it at any store or on web.
