EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PRODUCT!!! I bought three of these last year on a "good deal" and returned them all. The lock is on the top right behind the step. If your left foot overlaps the step by a bit and you step down with your right foot, the ladder can INSTANTLY snap shut, kick out to the side and send you face first into the ground before you can react. SERIOUS design flaw! I sprained both wrists and both forearms, just tore myself up. I had to go get xrays, which were fortunately negative, but I was on muscle relaxers and pain killers for days and was pretty useless for at least 3 weeks and felt pain for at least 6 weeks. Incredible the amount of damage you can take from falling just a few feet. I called and put in a complaint about these, but they are still selling them. This is a class action lawsuit ready to happen. Infinite negative starts here. Worst product I've ever bought in my entire life, no joke. Horrible horrible horrible. I can't express how much I don't want you to buy this. It's not worth the risk. Buy another step ladder that has a different type or location of the release... not a button right under your toe!
Can you confirm the model of your step ladder? The recalled model is HB3-PRO. This one in the post is the GLS-3CS model.

This ladder sucks, the top step is too small and unstable. I ended up returning it and got a Werner step ladder. The top stop of the Werner is much bigger and is very stable.

The complaints here are absolutely baffling to me. I've had this ladder for almost five years now. Bought it at half the price, and if I loaned it out today and never got it back, I'd happily pay this price to replace it. Lightweight, tall enough to use for every indoor job I've needed some extra height for, but small enough to easily hide it away in the closet. I can't for the life of me figure out how someone could collapse it while standing on it - I'm guessing they're confusing this with a different model.

If you're going up this step stool forwards, the lock is on the left side. But even if you are somehow able to step far enough off the platform to disengage the lock, I don't see how it could collapse with your weight on the step. Maybe you didn't have it fully open and locked in the first place.

I consider myself a little bit of a step ladder connoisseur, Lowe's/Kobalt made a really nice one a few years ago but they don't seem to sell it anymore. I bought the above one at Menard's last week, it cost a little more but it's a freaking tank and that tray at the top is super useful.

You have to lift up the top step after pressing the button to collapse the ladder. What you are describing isn't possible.

Cmon man. Everybody knows that baby oil stays on the floor for easy access. Ain''t nobody got time to climb on no ladder with oily feet in the middle of a freak off!
you can't 'fall and land on top of it with your rear' if you're not on a ladder. how else do you explain it to the ER?

What in gods name are you talking about? I can't follow this at all. You can step on that 'lock' lever all day and nothing will happen because you're putting pressure on the top step which would keep it pushed down. How is it possible that you could simultaneously pushing the top step down while also lifting it up?

With the back legs against the wall, a quick jump while on the top step, reach down with the left foot to depress the lever, leg sweep with the other for the collapse and win. This common scenario should be added to the warning label

I clicked through to the Home Depot page. I went to their image with the 360 degree view and spun it around. There does indeed appear to be a lever at the end of the top step in the middle. It appears to be even with the top step, so it does appear pressure from your toe could press the lever.

The thing in the center is just a handle. The lock lever is the little thing to the left of it. But even if you depress that lever, this can not collapse unless you are also pulling up on the step.

Got this about 3 years ago for $9.99 on a slick deal. Still decent at the $20 mark.
I got it for $1.99 20 years ago.
