I have and had a compustar on almost every car I've had. And they all drain the crap out of your battery. If it's a car you don't drive at least once every 3 days, Don't get it. I've had a viper before too and it did not drain like a compustar does. The price with installation gets me every time I guess.

I have thought about this but realized that this is mildly overkill given the add-on software…but I may be overthinking this.

I have not had the experience you are describing - I had this installed 3 years ago at a Best Buy and it has been absolutely perfect. The install was clean, quick, professional, and the system is stable and easy to use.

That car is driven a minimum of 3 days a week - it has frequently been parked at airport parking for periods ranging from 3-14 days, and I start receiving battery low notifications after day 6 or 7. It has always started just fine, though.

The battery drain is real, but certainly not an issue for me. I've had multiple cars with compustars, as well as viper and idatastart, and none have them have drained the batteries within 3 days. 7-10 days has been mixed and yes, it was the Compustar cars, but I've also had a few non-remote-start cars die in that amount of time.

If you aren't going to use the LTE-- absolutely not. If you are, then it is only fair by comparison. Historically we've seen sub-300 w/ LTE, $200-ish without. That said, future pricing is not guaranteed, and the closer you get to the holidays, the more unreasonable the installation dates get. If I needed one and was gonna use the LTE module (i.e. pay subscription DroneMobile service) I would probably pick this up and be done with it. Just stop looking though because if you do buy it, it will be $300 next week 🤣

What would be alternate of LTE module - if it is not really needed then I'm fine getting other model. Thanks

The CS4905S-KIT is the sku without the additional LTE model, and isn't on sale currently. The stated range using the included fob is 3000ft (in reality it probably significantly less, but still plenty far enough for most cases). The addition of the LTE module facilitates the start/stopping/ lock/unlocking /tracking location via an iOS or Android app-- DroneMobile. This is a subscription service. You are not required to sign up for the subscription service if you buy this LTE version, but you can only control the remote start via the fob (which again, is fine for most people).

So, if you want to use it to start your car (warm up/ cool down if you left heat/ac on) when your flight is arriving on the ground in your home town, track your car, get app notifications when your car starts/stops/unlocks/locks or geofence'd location notifications (I think), battery low notifications, etc then you would need the LTE and have to pay monthly or annually for it.

To clarify, overall I am saying that there is a decent chance this will get cheaper, and a decent chance the non-LTE version will get even cheaperer. Sales usually start October-ish and run on and off through til Christmas, sometimes January. There have been years where I missed it because I waited, but if you don't need it for a gift and can wait, I would wait.

Another (perhaps unsavory) option is to purchase this but put your installation date further into the future. Cancel this order if better one comes along. Don't get mad at me if you can't cancel for whatever reason but I certainly have.

I've gifted these to multiple friends and family without the lte module. One with the lte module. The one with lte module was parked for 2+ weeks with no battery issues. All work great. I did upgrade one to the 2 way remote with screen which was easy to do.

Only warning is BestBuy always does this around the holiday season and the appointments book up way out. Some areas could be back logged for months for installation.

Of all the installs I've had done had issues with 2 of them. One needed reprogrammed a few years later. A second stopped working after a factory software update to the anti theft system. In both cases best buy honored the lifetime warranty and fixed it. But TAKE A PICTURE of your yellow receipt upon install. They need that to validate the warranty.

I've had this installed in March and paid $299 + tax. During the installed best buy charged an additional 30$ for the LTE drone which is kind of B/S. That said, I used the app during the trial and it works fine. I will prob subscribe at some point when it gets colder as I like the idea of doing it remotely when I'm out. I didn't have any battery issues as I was out of town for 2 weeks over the summer and my car started fine when I came back. The range on the remote fob is good and if you don't need the LTE, I've seen this as low as 199$ but prob not when you're looking for it.

My installation was cancelled without my consent or letting me know in advance. No one called me to reschedule? I can't get anyone on the phone?
