If you want to do strength training with barbell lifts you want something with a solid and supportive heel like this. The soft foam of walking shoes is unstable for heavy squats.

You can get lifting shoes just for that, or you can get something like this Nike shoe if you want to be able to run and lift during the same workout.

They're better for working out. Because they're workout shoes.

FYI. free metcon 6, has had some issues with mid sole splitting for those doing crossfit-ish workouts outside. don't think about doing rope climbs
if anyone owns FM 3/4/5, mid sole is now bit more mooshier. FM 6 reminds me of FM-1. seems like FM6 is more of a casual shoe.

personal note, starting 2-3 years ago. i notice nike's quality have gone down the drain. my metcon turbo started to come part. and is last pair of nikes i have purchased.

with that said, 63 bucks is okay price for okay shoes.

Anyone own these and the Metcon 9s, and can say how the stability compares? I love the stability of the 9 for leg exercises like split squats, but for some strange reason they hurt my feet so I can't wear them. I'm not sure if I should try these.

Almost always when certain models are discounted, there is something that is wrong: either not comfortable, or issue on material, etc. at least that has been my experience with all brands of shoes Smilie

Good insight. I love my FM5 and have been on the fence about these...

My nike dri-fit socks do not last more than couple of months of just regular wear. Not sure what's wrong with Nike's quality

sometimes they discount the colors that don't sell well and nothing is wrong with the model itself. Or if it's last years models, they'll get discounted. For example: Nike Pegasus shoes are fantastic shoes but they get discounted when the new ones are out.

Considering Metcons have been on 9 for a bit and the 6s are still going strong this year, this is apparently not the case.

Nike always discounts colors over time and eventually models.

I have these exact shoes in the dark blue color way and can recommend them especially if you like a shoe with a smooth sock-liner style fit similar to Ultraboosts (UB). The tongue is not a separate construct like with most shoes - its one piece and part of the 'collar' around your ankle. The upper around the ankle (collar) is stretchy and makes for a relatively secure slip-in shoe which I very much like.

Also, compared to UB, I find the liner even smoother and has less stitching/seams. This makes for a more comfortable on-skin feel if you choose not to wear socks for example. If you do wear socks, there's less chance of chafing or pressure areas.

I've only worn my pair for a few months so I can't speak for long term durability but my outsole still looks meaty. No squeaks or odd noises to report of.

These are good for weight lifting with a barbell because they wouldn't squish or become unstable. But for walking any kind of distance, they are kinda stiff and there are better feet friendly choices.

Tested the metcon 9 and ended up buying the metcon 6. The 9 are definitely more stable, but metcon 6 are very very stable too and they are much more conformable for other activities besides weights.
I've had 2 issues with the 6s tough, 2 pieces of the soles (the black kind of decorative elements) started coming off a month after I bought them (I'm about to apply shoe glue to them to see if they stay), and 2) after 10 months with them I feel they stretched slightly (I can only tell something is off when I do an exercise that applies sideways pressure on the sole).
I would definitely get the 6 again in the future. Despite their flaws, I love them and I abuse them everyday so theres that.
