I know that LEGO rewards points expire 18months with no points activity. But does anyone know if just registering a set for the 20pts extends the expiration date?

Meh. Legos are way overpriced for the entertainment they provide. Sorry I might be old school - back in the day when you just had blocks and sheets - and now it seems they focus on sets with pieces that are essentially only usable within a set. Don't get me wrong, building a Saturn V rocket is basically a 3D puzzle, but spending $200 for something you're going to once and then put on a shelf is a poor value.

Price is a valid point but complaining just because of lack of imagination is 🤷

Not to mention the Saturn rocket literally comes with different stages and you can take it apart, the choice of putting it on a shelf is yours
