For general car maintenance, The 3/8-inch drive torque wrench with a range of 10 to 80 ft-lbs is usually ideal.
For smaller bolts and parts, such as spark plugs, oil drain plugs, and other mid-sized fasteners.

For larger jobs, like suspension and engine work, The 1/2-inch drive torque wrench with a range of 25 to 250 ft-lbs is often necessary.

Can't speak for Walmart but I know costco and discount tires used a torque wrench if you actually watch them service your car. Their impact gun is regulated where it doesn't go past 60 ftlb when tighten. After using the impact to tighten, they then go around with a torque wrench to the lug specs for the car.

Nothing - the monkeys at Walmart/Costco/Discount tires just go pop-pop-pop on their air wrench and call it a day. If millions of cars are ok out there, just hand cranking until "tight-enough" should do it.
F*** around and find out.

which one is for lugnuts?
Most lug nuts tighten to the 100 Ft.Lb. range, so you're going to want to get a half inch drive. Use a breaker bar to remove the lugs so you don't spring the torque mechanism.

Yeah I think this is a question for anyone who has torque wrench. I have a couple of wrenches that I always keep unloaded when storing but every now and then I kinda question its accuracy when using. There must be an easier way to test these wrenches other than attaching varying weights per the utube videos.
The easy (and truly accurate) way requires buying a torque test machine to calibrate them.

The DIY (almost free) method requires hanging a known amount of weight a specific distance from the center of the head, using a formula to calculate how much torque that SHOULD be, and then adjusting the wrench to that reading. You could possibly cheat with a digital adapter, but that's still $40-$100, at which point if you trust it enough to calibrate your torque wrench, just use it instead and trash your torque wrench.

just get the HF 1/2 one for lugnuts, .etc.

don't get the cheap 1/4 HF one. The clicks are too soft.

Hi, double-check the zip code. Also, I just order with my business account, but it's limited to one item
I tried my home and business address from my business account. Neither worked.
Both addresses worked from my personal account. Same zip codes with each account.

Why does this look like a painted Harbor freight torque wrench? At double the "deal" price to boot? Same +/- 4% accuracy rating too. Guess the paint job makes it 14 dollars more expensive?

Honestly, just get the HF ones for less money; instead of some Amazon brand that you can't exchange locally.

I have a $$$ Snappy at home, but I use the HF on the road for service calls - works just fine.

I need a pretty basic one for rare occasions, like tightening the oil drain bolt a couple times a year when I change the oil.
I've been just tighten all my oil bolts without one for years. Never had one fall off, leak or break. This is with motorcycle, 4 wheelers and vehicles.

It wont. Theres a spring on the lever switch have to press then push it to the side to open. It come w a lock that prevent it from pressing down but ive never needed it. 195k miles on since 1st oil change no leaks. Only thing i could see happen if u off road and rip off the valve.

Harbor Freight $12 Black Friday. I used 3/8 works fine. I think the problem people have issues are dont use torque wrenches enough to know what your doing or its not calibrated. Instructions does say calibration every 6 mths. But beginner users, who has time or know how to do this. Also, proper storage, exercise, etc. Drop it, guess what..."should" calibrate. Also, some use to break torque, this will throw it off too. If your diyer HFT will more than likely do fine but if your more experienced invest in something more to needs.
Can you teach us how to Calibrate the torque wrench?
