CVS Info:
First of all, you will need a CVS ExtraCare card. This is obtained easily at any store at the register. Some will ask you to fill out the form then and there, others will just give you the card and ask you to return the form later.
Once you have the card, you can now start CVSing
The biggest thing to understand is that CVS uses a promotional program called ExtraCare Bucks (commonly abbreviated as ECBs.) These print out on your receipt immediately once you purchase an item offering them; almost like an instant-rebate you get at the register. You can turn around and use them anytime on almost anything in the store, except for alcohol, cigarettes, and gift cards.
Often, CVS advertises items as Free after ECB For example, throughout the month of November, CVS has Crest Pro Health Whitening Toothpaste in 4.2 oz size, for free after ECB. The cost is $3.49, but you get $3.49 back instantly on your receipt. The best part is that there are often coupons available that can actually help you earn money like for the above toothpaste, there are $1 off coupons available, meaning the item would be $2.49, but you get $3.49 in ECBs back. The limit on this toothpaste for this month is 2. So if you wanted to start off small to get into CVSing, the thing to do would be to buy one toothpaste in the first transaction (and use a coupon if you have one, so that you either pay $3.49 or $2.49 in cash), then use the $3.49 ECBs you get back from that first transaction to pay for the second tube of toothpaste, and again, receive $3.49 more in ECBs.
The trick now is to roll your ECBs so that you rarely pay more than maybe a dollar or two in tax on transactions, instead using your ECBs from previous transactions then earning more to keep doing the same. Its a cycle (and a game/addiction to some, lol.)

Read through some of the thread. Saw the question about what we needed right after the fire.
I think a lot depends on where they go for the next week or so. If with family, I would suggest some clothing. The bags or bins were a good idea. Money is always a good idea. If in a hotel or similar, you might be surprised how the personal effects (shampoo, deo, etc) really helps out. Money is a bigger help here too since all meals are pretty much eaten out.
One of the best things we got was a good binder with notepad. It really helped us organize things and get us started on the house inventory.
If they didn't save their cell phone, maybe a phone card. They will be making lots of calls over the next several days.
Also, something that meant a lot to us were small things for the kids. Some might think that there are more important things at a time like this, but if there are smaller kids, they really don't think about the clothing and stuff. all they think about is being stuck in a hotel and their things they lost.
I won't be on much tonight, and not sure about tomorrow, but if I think of more, I will mention it. I just hope they get half the support we did.
