If you have Chase freedom series credit card, Paypal is within the 5% cashback category this quarter. In the PayPal app, there could also be a Best Buy 5% cashback offer. If you purchase from Best Buy and pay with PayPal, you could get the 5% + 5%.

If this were the M3, I'd consider it at this price. Upgrading from a 2020 MBA M1. I'd appreciate the upgrade chassis and RAM, but the M2 is already two generations behind.

I always prefer to buy latest generations when comes to electronics. In long term it's always better to buy current generation than a two year old. My 2015 Mac Pro screen died and Apple charging $700 to replace it, insane.
For someone who runs their electronics into the ground instead of selling them, it actually makes more sense to buy slightly older and cheaper electronics because in few years time it won't matter anyway whether you buy the new or the old gen today. They all will be really old and "slow" in relation to the latest stuff.

You should only buy the newest gen if you care about the resale value or if that 10-20% gain in performance will make a big difference for your use case.

"Future-proofing" is a fallacy when it comes to electronics. The money you save on the upgrades today plus the resale value of your item can get you the latest and greatest tech every 3 years for next to nothing.

Yes it's essentially a 2 year old computer design, but they haven't been sitting around for 2 years. It's currently the low end version of the Air that Apple sells and was likely only manufactured in the last month or two.

I do get your point though and I'm torn on what I want to eventually get. There are noticeable pros/cons between the Air and Pro.

I'm having a Macbook air 2013, and it's still running great. I'm using Linux btw. 😅

Thanks for sharing that perspective! I can see the logic for people who upgrade often—the value of saving upfront and reinvesting in new tech every few years. But for someone like me who prefers to stick with my devices until they're fully outdated or malfunctioning, the latest generation still feels worthwhile. The extra upfront cost can mean better performance and longevity, which I appreciate given how much I depend on my tech.

Plus, the latest models often come with improved support for new software and features, which I find useful. I agree that 'future-proofing' is a bit of a gamble with how fast tech changes, but sometimes that added headroom in power and features makes a difference, especially if unexpected needs arise down the road!"

I paid $850 for the M3 8gb at Costco in August. Would they accept a return still for me to buy this M2 16gb at $750? I just want whichever is a faster laptop that would last at least 5 years. Should I keep my current one? New to Costco this year and this is my first major purchase with them so I don't know how they operate in terms of rules and policies. This is also my first Apple product and so far the macbook air has been great!
If you are within 90 days , they will - I did that today

You need to get a DisplayLink adapter. Plugable is the brand that I use

I have a 2012 pro, I was able to update the ram and battery several years ago and the keyboard is just starting to die. Otherwise it runs fine to me. People needlessly replace things.

Glad to see 16GB prices dropping, they're great machines even 2 gens behind, just don't forget if you're transferring large files often this does have the gimped SSD so it will be slower. But in reality not that many people will give a toss.
This ssd is slower than the m1?

I bought the Best Buy deal a few days ago, so tried to price match this by chat but they refused it twice. If they won't price match this then their price match policy is worthless. Lesson learnt and will be buying from Amazon next time.
