I upgraded with an existing ATT line and activated and paid of the $299. When I look at my account on ATT it shows the contract end date is now 3 years later.

Was an upgrade with ATT a 3 year contract extension for existing customers? I don't remember seeing anything during the check out process.

For you existing ATT customers do you know see a 3 year commitment for the line you upgraded?

I upgraded an exisiting line with AT&T and it did not tie me to a contract. I chose to keep the same number and same plan when checking out through Wal-Mart. The installment plan for 3 years showed on my account to pay for the phone, but there was an obvious link to pay it off in full. I activated, paid off, waited 48 hours and unlocked all through the website. No human interaction needed.

So you first activated the phone on Verizon?
Yes. I had selected the Verizon plan with my order. From the posts on here I was under the impression I might have issues with paying off the phone, cancelling the line or unlocking the phone if I didn't activate the phone at all.

Your request could not be processed when calling in to pay off device via verizon non verizon phone #. I also got the chat link.. selected from the devices on my plan the new iphone and it said device isn't eligible to payoff until Dec 8. Is this dead?

I got the Verizon version and activated it after receiving the phone. I followed the Wiki, paid the balance with the robochat and cancelled the line and chat with Apple to update the purchase date and warranty. Finally got the updated bill of $26.41 while I was on the phone with the Verizon rep. He said expect another $9.12 in prorated credit and to only pay $17.49 via the one time payment link for disconnected account.

Thing is in order to unlock it must be active on the account for 60 days at least for Verizon...
worked incredibly well for me. Just follow the wiki, I got the phone, activated it, got verified with apple, paid off phone and disconnected and unlocked the phone with Verizon. All done within 2 hours. Now I need to figure out how to either trade in or flip it and make little more money for all the efforts, should have bought 2, now the price is doubled.

I got a nice chick on the chat. The same call I was able to unlock and disconnect. My sim says locked but rep told me it is esim and she said rest assured you can take your phone anywhere you want. Does anyone know how to verify this that this phone will work with any provider? I can see the line has been disconnected in Verizon. Will remove the credit card from verizon after todays device payoff payment goes through. She waived $35 activation also. Waiting for 2 phone from straighttalk to see how they pan out.

I know that, you know that, but she has no way to know. Smilie settings is where I checked. carrier lock says SIM locked. Not sure if this is standard, Othertimes on other phones I have seen, carrier lock no SIM restrictions. So I am not sure. I hope they had a 25 cents plan where you can check out? I know sometime ago Tmobile or someone had $2 plan.

I think it means the phone is still locked to Verizon. You can try with a non-Verizon line to see if it works. Or try turning off and on the phone again first.

Oh no, I am so sorry. What carrier did you have? Mine was Lasership. They just left it on the porch without even bothering to ring the doorbell for signature. We were all inside the house at the time.
Fedex, which you would expect to be better about these things.
I've been posting on X and they reached out to me but still getting no where as far as getting my line canceled with AT&T.
Been a mess so far which a lot of wasted time.
