It is really easy to clear the direct deposit requirements because Paypal and Zelle inbound transfers count as an EDD. However, DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT use Zelle to transfer money out. It is very common to be put on a fraud hold if you transfer money out using Zelle. Transfer money out by using a trusted hub account to pull funds. If you don't have a hub account, then wait after the bonus posts then try to do a external transfer.
What is a hub account? A Hub Bank Account is simply a bank account that will make it easy to electronically transfer money into and out of your other accounts. Within your bank account, you can do an electronic funds transfer service that allows you to initiate bank-to-bank transfers (known as ACH transfer).
Their banking system is horrible. Most likely they will flag your account after your first transfer and will block all the money. You won't find an official looking phone number because they have dozens of them. There have been many scams where you get mail posing as Citibank and even their official mails aren't that convincing. I had a hard time getting my money back and going back and forth with them. I closed my account as soon as I got it back. Never again

So are you saying, say to transfer from Bank A to Bank C, you would pull with Bank B from Bank A, then push from Bank B to Bank C?

I tried an outbound Zelle transfer, and I was locked out of my account completely for many days. My existing online user Id was also permanently blocked. I ended up registering again. I did the same - rinse and repeat 2 more times, got locked out. Such a pain with Citi!

SoFi is an AH.MAY.ZING hub account. And also, good term!
There's a monthly service fee for this checking account.
"In addition to Relationship Tier waivers, Monthly Service Fees are waived for Regular Checking accounts and Access Checking accounts 1) when the account has $250 or more in Enhanced Direct Deposits ("EDD"), or 2) in the month of account opening and for the first 3 full calendar months after account opening. Tier Exclusions apply to certain customers through separate notice. Unless a waiver applies as described above, monthly service fees are as follows:
Deposit Account Monthly Service Fee
Access Checking $5.00
Regular Checking $15.00
*Deposit accounts are subject to service, transaction or other fees not covered by the Monthly Service Fee. For a complete list of applicable fees, please review your Consumer Deposit Account Agreement. Please also carefully review any fee disclosures provided at the time of a transaction or when a service is provided, such as when you open a Safe Deposit Box or order checks."
Please stay away from this bank. I had horrible experience i transferred money from chase to citi . Citi denied they never received it. I had to put in so much effort to get my money back. Their customer care is rude and they have no way of email . They still have mail only communication . Chat is for namesake , they deny anything said on chat ( not legally permissible anywhere) . I had to include the bbb to get the actual reason of why my money was not received even then they were not really sorry they said their system was in outage when the transfer happened from chase.

And, on top of the above, the bank bonus will be treated as income and reported to the IRS. Some may think that's ok as you still keep a lot of the bonus, but it complicates your taxes, and if you're close to cut-off points for things like Medicare IRMAA or ACA tax credits, it could change how much you pay. I don't take advantage of bank account bonuses for this reason. Credit card bonuses are not taxable.
On the website it says:
Your bonus will be deposited as a credit to your open, eligible checking account within 30 days after the end of the 90-calendar day qualification period.
I was under the impression that you have to wait 90 days to get a bonus credited to your account. I planned to make 2 deposits closer to the end of the 90 days period. Am I not understanding this correctly?
