I bought this from Walmart for the same price a few weeks back. Really did my research before purchasing this. Was looking for a 34-inch ultrawide to replace two 24-inch FHD monitors I was using for WFH, which could also double as a gaming monitor and for watching movies from time-to-time. Kept going back and forth between this and the Alienware OLED 34 inch. I saw both at Microcenter. And while the Alienware looked noticeably better when I watched an HDR YouTube video, I couldn't get past the text fringing, which I know will bother me since I use Word and Excel 70% of my time when working.
Besides, the display on this is really, really good for IPS. A pleasure to look at. I don't think you'll find a better jack-of-all-trades monitor than this, especially for the price. Everything looks sharp with accurate colors and more brightness than most will ever need. I have it connected using DP and it does 144hz 10-bit for smooth gaming and movie-watching without blurring. Great decision to go with this over the Alienware for my needs and at half the price too.

Depends on what you are doing with your monitor. If you often do photo creation (Photoshop) then the ips would be a big deal because you WILL notice color inaccuracies if you're used to dealing with color palettes.

If you're a gamer, IPS has a slight edge in motion blur/less ghosting.

If you're into watching media content like movies the VA panel will be vastly superior due to its much better contrast ratio. Blacks look washed out on IPS. If you've ever used your monitor at night in a pitch black room you will really notice the greyness of an ips panel's black level.

If all you are using this monitor for is for computer work in Microsoft Excel/word/ etc either panel will work just fine.

I bought this from Walmart for the same price a few weeks back. Really did my research before purchasing this. I also bought this off of Amazon a few years back, for the same price. By itself, it didn't have enough screen space compared to the two 23" it replaced. So I ended up getting a 27" and it fits perfectly beside it.

Does it have usb c port? OP mentions usb c but don't see it in spec.

It does not. That and the fact that it also doesn't have HDMI 2.1 are probably the only real drawbacks.

Looking at this compared to the Dell S3422DWG… use case is primarily work, multitasking, but also entertainment (Netflix, video streaming). No gaming. Would this IPS monitor be preferred over the VA Dell?

If your usage doesn't include gaming and viewing angle isn't of concern, I prefer the S3422DWG VA panel. This LG monitor could be a much better choice if you can get past the ips glow and off-white balance (lottery). I really couldn't get the LG to calibrate to my liking.

S3422DWG is great for work and media consumption. But I also got S3422DWG for $260 OTD so that's one of the reason why I kept it and returned the LG.

Depends on your use case. If you are looking for a gaming monitor, probably not. The IPS panel has less ghosting, but also worse blacks. So it is kind of even, especially if you game at night. If you are looking primarily for a work monitor, reading text etc, then the IPS panels is probably worth it.

This is a premium monitor. It cost like $700+ when it first came out. It is tempting. If you're only going to use 1 screen to do everything, IPS is a good choice (gaming/productivity/entertainment). In my case a two monitor setup makes me more productive and I can split the use case of the monitors in half (one monitor is for gaming/movie watching the other is for productivity). But both can be used for productivity if I need it (doing photo editing work on the QD-OLED while having slickdeal's page open on the other monitor Wink)

One of the best ways to reduce eye strain is to turn on "night light" on your Windows machine. Just search in the windows search box "night light". That works towards night time but you can play around with specific hours for it to activates. It limits blue light.

Install "Dark Reader" on every browser you have (It's free and amazing):
https://darkreader.org/

That will give you "Dark Mode" on every website. If you are working in Excel/Word/etc get Microsoft Office 2024. Office 2021 might have dark mode, but I'm using Office 2024 and it has it for sure. No more white screens for your eyes to look at; like looking directly into the sun 😯.

Black pages with white text. Pure bliss for your eyes. That should help immensely with both monitor technologies.
