This is a nice entry-level guitar and the pickup combination is cool. I probably wouldn't have bought this if I had grabbed the G5220 and G5210 from the most recent deals but I bought at this price earlier this year in Feb. I ended up modding it and upgraded the tuners to Grovers, swapped the Broadtron with a Blacktop Filtertron (this was a PITA btw) and am experimenting with this Xtrem Floating Vibrato Tailpiece (no screws required), https://www.guitarfetish.com/Xtre...4414.html.

The BT Filtertron sounds good but I had to do some additional wiring and also had to sand down part of the metal ears so the thing would properly fit in the cavity. Also had to drill a few new holes which are covered by the trim plate anyway.

The Xtrem is also a bit of PITA to deal with and I need to figure out what's wrong with the arm because the nut/washer stack is siezing up on itself from the string tension I believe. I do like the vibrato addition to this guitar though and once I figure out how to stop it from siezing up, things will be much better.

Even if you're not remotely interested in modding this guitar, it's a decent one to grab if you're looking for a beater or beginners guitar. You may want to spend a bit more to get it properly setup at a local shop (try to find a local guitar repair person/luthier rather than just dropping off at the nearest Guitar Center, unless you know a trusted tech that works there...).

I agree. I don't see a reason to purchase this guitar in place of the G5220 deals. Or the G5210, if you want P90s.

The wood finish looks beautiful in person. I bought one a few months ago and is adorning my living room (I don't play guitars).

Would you share your opinion that in you experience the P90 would fit in the broadtron slot?
I ask because I have the the 5220 and would like to fit in the P90s. I don't plan to buy another grestch. I reather get something strat with tremolo. But I missed tge 5210, all I got is the 5220.

I doubt it would fit because these are physically different sized pickups. You'd have to look at measurements of various P90s and try to determine that way. Usually the cavities are specifically routed for the relevant pickup though especially on Gretsch guitars.

I could be wrong... you may want to check the Gretsch Talk forums. Here's on related thread:

TV Jones T90's may work.
