HIGHLY YMMV - OPEN BOX $1,343.99 @ Best Buy LINK IS FOR REGULAR CLEARANCE ONLY AND NOT THE OPEN BOX ITEM, SO PLEASE BE MINDFUL THAT OPEN BOX ITEMS POPS IN-&-OUT OF INVENTORY

I've been waiting for this to come back at this $1.3k price for an open box item and snatched it earlier when I saw one that's supposed to be in excellent condition and available for shipping. I will definitely run it through rigorous testing upon receipt before deciding if I should keep it or not.

Happy Black Friday Hunting!

With any and all electronics it can be 5 minutes or 500 years. Anywhere in between that.

At Best Buy no fixed rule for setting the grade. I once bought a tablet which was sold as Acceptable. It was excellent, I did not even beleive it was ever opened initially. For some reason I had to return it to another Best Buy. Then they listed it as Excellent. So condition is YMMV.

My store has two legion 7i, a good fit 999 and excellent for 1029.
The excellent was brand new, never been opened
The good was in a ziplock bag... It was the former display. It had been on 24/7 for ~6mo and looked like it it was in a preschool.

I ended up buying a Asus p16 proart 4060 from best buy.com, "excellent". It appeared to be unused and came with everything as new.

Snagged one of these open box excellent from the Victor NY store back in September for about $20 more than this. Upgraded RAM to 64 and swapped in my 2tb Samsung 980 Pro and secondary SP 2tb drive. This thing is a beast. It benches about 85-95% of the performance of my 7900x desktop with a 3090. I actually have my desktop lined up to sell because this Alienware is that good after some upgrades. It does run sorta hot on the CPU side but the GPU always stays pretty cool even under duress. Screen looks fantastic, great resolution (1600p) and 240hz is crazy overkill. The port layout is interesting: One USB-A and 2.5g ethernet on the left, everything else on the back (DC, 2x USB-C, 1x USB-A, MiniDP, full size SD card and HDMI). One tidbit I have learned about this machine is that all external displays are driven by the dedicated Nvidia GPU rather than the Radeon 610M on the CPU. That one only drives the onboard screen. My main complaints about this PC are the lack of USB4, the lack of a numpad and some weird issues I have with my USB-C laptop dock (I can't drive all my 3 displays with it, the third monitor must instead be connected to mini displayport). Overall, I do recommend this computer if you can find it. Happy hunting!

Look at the comments in the thread you linked and you'll notice I'm one of their early posters who snagged one. Not much reason to care if xyz 4080 laptop is a bit less expensive than abc, both can be great deals and that is the case here. Unlike the 4070, mobile 4080 chips aren't a available in most cheaper OEM models so finding ANY 4080 for less than ~$1650 new or $1500-ish refurb/open-box is awesome (in great condition of course, else, ebay).

My Predator Helios order doesn't arrive till tomorrow. For the price, it and several other 4080/4090 deals I've seen are plenty good enough that I won't have (much) buyer's remorse when CES rolls around… except-

by early-late Summer next year we will definitely see a lot of newly-designed mobile 5070 or 5080 laptops with OLED screens hitting sales. And unlike the desktop space, laptop OEM's have a lot more control over pricing that is sensitive to consumer budgets. AMD is also expected to regain significant mobile market share versus Nvidia and will definitely be taking another bite out of Intel CPUs. Assuming ~10% higher prices from tarrifs, and depending on rtx 50 series mobile performance, I'd be damn happy to pay ~$2500 for an AMD x3d cache cpu, OLED screen, and mobile rtx 4080-ish performance (hopefully) with 16gb vram, but maybe that will still be reserved for top-tier). But the waiting game can go on forever so for now, these current deals are the cheap-and-cheerful option.

Next year, something like a new Lenovo 7 Pro, thick mostly-metal design, and an x3d chip would boost minimum frame rates and have durable build quality to be solid for an easy 4-5+ years of use. When something thereabouts shows up on sale next year, I'll quite possibly sell this thing unless there is aren't many AMD x3d mobile options (like now, which surprises me since it's been a full year past 7945x3d's release in the 17" rog strix scar).
