You can buy the phone without the plan for $300.

My new Pixel 9 is now carrier unlocked and OEM/bootloader unlocked.

The discussion with Mint customer service rep yesterday resulted in a trouble ticket being assigned to the "backend office". I was told I'd "receive an e-mail within 24-48 hours".

Late this morning (less than 24 hours after the ticket was issued) the new phone had a notification that the phone was carrier unlocked.

Under Developer Options the OEM unlocking was immediately selectable--I need this for installing the after-market ROM, but this bootloader unlocking is tied to the carrier unlocking.

Soon thereafter I received another notification: "No service" and "Selected network (Mint) unavailable". That may be due to the fact that I had previously deselected "Automatically select network" in settings. So I selected the "Choose network" option and then selected "Mint" (the only option since I hadn't changed Sims) and a few seconds later I was back in business.

I never received the e-mail from the backend office, but everything seems to be working.

To answer a couple other questions folks have asked: My understanding is that this is a permanent carrier unlocking. I believe I'd told the Mint customer service rep (Kylah) that I was going to be going on international travel (as the excuse for needing it carrier unlocked right away). I had paid for a year of service along with the phone. The fact that the service is already fully paid-for is one of the requirements you need to meet for them to unlock your phone right away. I ordered Tuesday of last week and received it via FedEx on Friday. I had used an eSim for the Mint service on this phone. I'm a brand new customer of Mint, but I don't think that should matter.

If I receive an e-mail from the backend office and it contributes any additional information I'll post a follow-up message.

I'd actually ported-in a burner phone number to this service. So after I load GrapheneOS, I'm going to switch numbers (port-in) so my new phone has my main phone number. Hopefully that will take less time and I'll get less of a run-around doing that.

Good luck!

That's amazing ! I just logged into my account and went to new phones and it showed it for $299!

Below is my order breakdown:

Nice!

Wasn't expecting to upgrade my phone but at this price its a no brainer for a better finger print sensor!

Anyone have any experience with this? What if I activate the phone and then transfer sim back to my older phone? Can I get the Pixel 9 unlocked after 60 days?

Dead for existing customers
Not true, if you are an existing customer and you are logged in, they won't show the Pixel 9 in the list of phones. But if you go straight to the Pixel 9 product page it is available for $299, and you will not be presented with a choice of plans.

Perhaps they did not intend to make this available to existing customers and are trying to hide it?
The strange thing is, I logged in to my account, and then if I visit the list of phones or the Pixel 9 product page, it shows "Login" at the upper right. But I am logged in, and there certainly is a difference in behavior if I am truly not logged in (by opening an Incognito Window or whatever).
So login, and then click on that link to go directly to the product page.

God dammit just did the 579 deal last week. Anyone know if they'll refund the difference?
I have the same question. I bought the phone a month ago but haven't actually used it or activated it. I've only used the SIM from the deal. Possible to get a refund since it's last than 30 days?

Thanks. I saw that port in requirement after I bought the phone and tried to cancel right away. Customer service seemed to understand, but I just received a tracking number. Now I have to find a number to port in.
If you bought the phone and plan, yes you must port in or you'll only get 6 months of the plan instead of 12.

If you just bought the phone, you do not have to port in, that requirement is only for the phone+plan deal.

If you were a mint customer, you were able to purchase the phone for the cost shown without purchasing a year subscription. I did this when the phone was 399 and it worked. Drop your SIM card into the phone to start the 60 day unlock countdown. I would assume that's what the 300 phone being referred to is talking about.
I am a Mint customer. I just ordered this Pixel 9 deal. Can I put my SIM card in the 9, power it on and configure it, and then remove my SIM, power off the phone, and give it to a friend to put in his drawer for 60 days, and then it will unlock for him? Or, do I have to use the phone for 60 days in order for it to unlock? This part is not clear to me.

Ha, I'll never buy myself a $700 phone, never mind a teen! Said I need a SLICK deal on an iPhone 14 or 15.

I believe you need to activate it on the mint network and then it would be good to put in a drawer to unlock 60 days later. I cannot confirm this as I've only had my phone for a couple weeks.

I'm a mint customer, bought the phone yesterday by 1pm, never got a confirmation email, but the PayPal transaction went through. Contacted Mint and told me to wait 24 hours for the email. Something's not right here .

If I buy $45 mint plan for 3 months and become a new customer, would I become eligible to buy the pixel 9 for $299 immediately once I login into my mint account? Thanks
I tried this approach and it worked. You can order the three month plan online with promo code "Freemonth" for 36$, however it may take 2-3 days if you order a physical sim, better option is buy it in Best Buy for $48 and activate it. Once you activate and login, then click on the pixel product link specified in several comments here. Now you would see just the phone for $299. For me it costed $299 plus $22tax plus $48 plan from Best Buy, I paid the $$321 with chase freedom using PayPal which gives 5% cashback and I paid the 3 month plan in Best Buy with gift card I bought for 7% discount from card cookie using my BofA rewards card which gives 3% for online. With all the cashback my net cost is $345. Good luck

I'm a Mint customer and bought one yesterday. My account is already paid for until next June. I got it for $317.69 with MA state tax and free shipping. Didn't really need a phone right now but couldn't pass up such a great deal. Like the old Nexus days =)

Great price for a new Pixel 9. Unlocks after 60 days of service (if you want to switch carriers). Some have reported that it unlocked right after delivery, not requiring the 60 day period.

https://www.mintmobile.com/device...9/6810275/

For new customers it looks like it requires 12-months of service ($180/year for unlimited data)

For existing customers you can go in the Mint Mobile app, Shop New Phones
Click "Home", scroll down to "Pixel 9 - $479" and click the link.. it will remove $180 since you have an active plan.

Can verify, as an existing mint user, I was able to purchase 2 for $299 via the app. Thanks OP!

Weird doesn't even show up on the app for me. It goes from Pixel 9 Pro Fold to Pixel 8a

You need to poke around a bit. I think the initial "phones" landing page takes you to a limited set (pixel 9 fold and 8a for some reason), but if you go back to the main phone screen and drill down to google phones, it will get you there. Like the OP says, it only works in the app. I hope that helps!

What's preventing someone from signing up for the service separately. So now they're an existing user. Then buy the phone without the 12 months lock in.
