The discussion with Mint customer service rep yesterday resulted in a trouble ticket being assigned to the "backend office". I was told I'd "receive an e-mail within 24-48 hours".
Late this morning (less than 24 hours after the ticket was issued) the new phone had a notification that the phone was carrier unlocked.
Under Developer Options the OEM unlocking was immediately selectable--I need this for installing the after-market ROM, but this bootloader unlocking is tied to the carrier unlocking.
Soon thereafter I received another notification: "No service" and "Selected network (Mint) unavailable". That may be due to the fact that I had previously deselected "Automatically select network" in settings. So I selected the "Choose network" option and then selected "Mint" (the only option since I hadn't changed Sims) and a few seconds later I was back in business.
I never received the e-mail from the backend office, but everything seems to be working.
To answer a couple other questions folks have asked: My understanding is that this is a permanent carrier unlocking. I believe I'd told the Mint customer service rep (Kylah) that I was going to be going on international travel (as the excuse for needing it carrier unlocked right away). I had paid for a year of service along with the phone. The fact that the service is already fully paid-for is one of the requirements you need to meet for them to unlock your phone right away. I ordered Tuesday of last week and received it via FedEx on Friday. I had used an eSim for the Mint service on this phone. I'm a brand new customer of Mint, but I don't think that should matter.
If I receive an e-mail from the backend office and it contributes any additional information I'll post a follow-up message.
I'd actually ported-in a burner phone number to this service. So after I load GrapheneOS, I'm going to switch numbers (port-in) so my new phone has my main phone number. Hopefully that will take less time and I'll get less of a run-around doing that.
Good luck!
Below is my order breakdown:
Nice!
Wasn't expecting to upgrade my phone but at this price its a no brainer for a better finger print sensor!

In my previous message I said I had not received the promised e-mail. Turns out that was incorrect. About 1 1/2 hours after the phone was unlocked an e-mail was caught by my spam folder.
The return e-mail was [email protected]. Putting that domain into a web browser redirects to ultramobile.com. Apparently this backend office services both Mint Mobile and Ultra Mobile which are both T-Mobile-owned MVNOs.
Dumb answer: Both IMEI numbers are on the exterior of the Google Pixel's box.
Also: I had my phone activated before even turning it on. That is, Mint did everything required on their end to port my number over to the Pixel 9 such that when I turned on the Pixel 9 after hanging up with customer service agent (on different phone) it immediately connected to Mint and I could call/text/use data.
As for unlocking, I dunno. Call them and ask?
After nearly a week of various (apparently) misleading information from customer service and/or ineptitude and dishonesty, I'm done with Mint.
I called to get my main phone number ported-in to replace my initial number. Per the discussion with Mint Mobile online chat (discussion I had and screenshot *before* ordering the phone last week), I would be able to get this different number ported in to replace my phone number. Today, after some back and forth, Mint decided that I can't port another number in per their policy. All I would need to do would be merely buy another service contract with them. I *just* bought the year service last week.Attachment 16738062
"Is there a way to escalate this issue with a supervisor?"
"No; this can not be escalated."
Much discussion and back and forth ... "OK; if there truly is no way you can port my number in then I can't use this phone or this service. You'll just need to cancel my order and refund me."
"OK; we'll cancel the order and issue you a refund."
Many times being put on hold later: "No; it's been 9 days since you placed your order. This is outside of the 7 day return policy. We can't refund your money."
"OK; Number 1: I never would've ordered to begin with if I was told the truth before I ordered that I wouldn't be able to port-in my phone number after I'd established service when I specifically asked about exactly this and was told it could be done. Number 2: I was told on Friday that to get the phone unlocked I could call google and get the phone unlocked. The number for Google's service was closed on Friday--maybe for holiday--when I finally reached them they told me that they couldn't unlock the phone and in fact you guys were the only ones that could unlock it. When I called back on Monday it took you guys a day to perform the unlock. Since I wasn't going to port my new number over until I could use it which requires the modified rom, hence the unlock, so all of those delays were on you guys for not knowing your own procedures. Number 3: When I called yesterday to port the number in I was told that it couldn't port in because I provided the wrong porting PIN and that I'd have to get this worked out with my old provider. Since they were closed for the day I couldn't make that call until today at which time they informed me that, in fact, no port request had actually even been made by you. This was backed up by you when you told me today that the real reason the port didn't go through is because your policy disallows the port-in. All of these delays are on you guys. Are you really going to force me to do a chargeback?"
"We can not give you a refund."
"Is there a way to escalate this issue with a supervisor?"
"No; this can not be escalated."
Since then I see on their website where the the 7 day limit for refund is from activation, not from ordering. My phone was activated 6 calendar days ago.
I've spent hours on the phone trying to work through all of their baloney, and this is what I get.
I'm sorry I didn't heed the warnings of others. I rolled the dice and lost.
Never again Mint Mobile!

Iirc when I bought the 3 month plan, it activated itself immediately, but I got a new number instead of porting one in.
