I've had the older version of this installed on my Genie SilentMax opener. It was easy to install and works 99% of the time. I paid $39 in 2019, so this is probably a good price.

Before this I tried installing a Chamberlain MyQ and never got it working.

As an fyi, this is not the HomeKit/CarPlay compatible one. Currently that one is 40 with a 5$ off coupon on Amazon. Holding out that it will go lower tomorrow. This seems to be the most recommended easy install smart garage controller.

It uses a sensor mounted near the door edge to detect the open/close state. On rare occasion, I'll try to open the door from the app and it will think that it successfully opened, when it didn't.I've never had the reverse issue (showing it's closed when in fact it's opened).

Funny….i bought and installed a Meross but it was very wonky. Replaced it with a MyQ which has been absolutely rock solid. The MyQ was the first gen model I think. People reported lots of problems with later versions. I bought mine on a Home Depot slick deal clearance for about $10. I use it on a vacation house three hours away and never worry about it not working correctly. I did put a cheap Wyzecam in the garage as a confirmation that the door was open or closed but I've never had a situation where the MyQ and the Wyzecam were not in sync. Also, the MyQ sends notifications almost instantly. When I had the Meross, I was never confident that it would operate and report as intended. Maybe I was just unlucky enough to get a bad unit because lots of folks have good success with them.

That's good. I had the opposite experience I bought a garage door opener with MyQ. And then Chamberlain royally screwed a lot of their customers by changing the rules and stopped support for direct Alexa integration among other things. I felt like I was held hostage so I bought a meross kit last month. It works with no subscriptions and is very flexible on what you can do with it for home automation.

Thankfully my MyQ was before the change to the subscription business model disaster. I pay nothing. That marketing snafu was right up there with Wyze. When I initially bought their cameras, they were advertised as free monitoring. Then they said users had to pay despite the clear advertising that it was free. Then they begged for money. Eventually private equity took over and they're no longer the company that everyone hoped would do well. They're leeches.

Almost as bad as HP which bricked huge numbers of customer printers with their "dynamic" firmware updates that prevents non-OEM consumables. To add insult, they say this ensures a better quality experience. Despite the class action lawsuits and EU, they still do this. An older friend recently updated his printer thinking new firmware was a good thing. Not only did he lose his printer, he'd just spent a ton of money on new cartridges.
