Great Deal... Except
You're paying tax on the full value of the phone ($449), so it's $99 after a trade in, but taxed as if it's full price.

Mine jumped from $99 to $143.99 (CA Tax)

Caution - They might decline trade in credit and charge back $350 on you (people got burned with this before). That will make a refurbished S21 an absolutely disaster deal.

I will give it a hard pass on this "deal", period.

S21 came with 3 years of Android upgrades. It should get Android 15 before losing support next year. The S22 came with 5 years of Android upgrades, plus 2 additional years of security updates. I'd go with the S22.

Document with pics and video everything about phone. Then if they deny trade in, you have proof.
would also suggest recording video of the device working properly etc just in case. u can delete all the pict/video once trade-in has been approved, which takes up to 2 weeks after they receive it

I'm trading in an old LG Optimus Exceed 2 that was a Verizon phone. It's over 10 years old but everything works. If somehow Samsung denies the trade in, can I return the S21 back to them and just have them send my old phone back? Anyone ever done this before if trade in is denied?
I was thinking the same thing, but I believe you only have 15 days to return it. Not sure they would process the trade in before the return window closed.

This.

Look up stories of people trading in their phones with Samsung that not only got their trade in declined due to stupid reasons, but locked out from their phone.

It's noted in their t&c that they will remote lock your phone if they don't like your trade in in order to make you pay it.
Need to remember when you trade-in your phone, the phone need to pay off or finish with the term.

For example, you may get the Tmobile FREE upgrade phone (or free for new line, etc) but the phone is actually under a 2-years term. Even though for those 2 years, you are not paying anything for the phone, the phone is still consider not pay-off yet so it cannot be use as a trade-in phone.

Also during trade-in, at least Tmobile gave instruction of TURN OFF Stolen Device Protection for iPhone or similar things like turn off track your phone feature from Samsung, Google, etc BEFORE you send your phone for trade in.

If you forgot to turn off those tracking/protection feature, it may prevent the transfer of the phone or trade-in of the phone.

There may be some other reasons too and hopefully people would post those reasons so others can be more careful with those things.

There a reason so many are going for the S21?
Price.

It's probably the most performant phone in the sub $150 market especially cameras and such, and given the new battery and whatnot.

I wanted a new backup phone and was considering the $50-60 prepaid ones that auto-unlock, but might as well get an older flagship for not much more.

How is the quality of Re-Newed phone sold directly by Samsung? Does it look like new with run-time of new battery?
Got the s23 re-new. So far it looks and runs like new. Battery holds 100% doesn't drop instantly.

So are you getting the phone directly from that carrier and finish with the term of the phone? Like if you get from Tmobile and there is a 2-year term of use, then you have to finish that before the phone is free to use as trade-in.

Another example is if you buy the locked phone from some random people/store on eBay and they haven't finished with the term of service (like they cancel the cellphone plan before the 2-year term is up) after you bought and received the phone, then the phone may not be able to use as trade-in since the carrier may still own the phone because of the unfinished term.

In short, don't buy locked phone from random people to trade in to reduce the risk of the phone hasn't been fully paid off or still being pay off at the moment (so not blacklisted yet).

When I go to pay, it says they can't deliver to my zip code. I ordered from Samsung before from this exact house. I have no idea what's going on. Anyone else having these issues?

Site is not working. When I click on "Yes, I agree" button, it keeps taking me back to my trade-in selection and wouldn't let me add it to cart.
