Key points about Starlink pricing:
Standard plan: $120/month
Roam plan (with limited data): $50/month
Roam plan (unlimited data): $165/month
Mobile Priority plan (with higher priority): Varies depending on data allowance, can be significantly more expensive
The STARLINK MINI never goes on sale (this is not the starlink standard which has gone on sale for $299 before, this is the MINI version). I have never ever seen the MINI on sale.
Combine with Amex deal, making it $425. Or you can combine with the Chase Paypal 5% quarterly thing as well.

Side Note: You can very easily make a rugged and portable starlink mini kit with a power bank, and it will all fit inside of an Apache 3800 from Harbor Freight (a little tight), or you can get the Apache 4800 and it will have plenty of room for the foam padding.
Also, due to the lower price from the sale, the Best Buy Product Replacement Plan is $69.99 instead of the higher price. Normally I'm not a fan of these types of things, but for this I highly recommend getting it. Use Amex, which adds 1 yr on top of that, so then you have 5 yrs of coverage even for cables and accessories which come with it. Starlink itself doesn't even offer a comparable plan at any price.

Had no plans to buy this, but it's a great deal and awesome to have in power outages!
1) What type of emergency are you trying to prepare for
2) Are you tailgating in areas where there is 0 cell service?
2) At large events cell service gets overrun and drops often when hotspotting, makes streaming other games (via YouTube tv) on the tv an issue.
My area is low demand, houses average miles apart, town is 15 miles away and has 200 people. Full service is $90 here. But I use cellular. Cell tower is over 10 miles away. $400 antenna to get that, over $400 for the 5G router, and I get nearly 90Mbps down for $50. Up from the 10-15Mbps I had until last year, which was the fastest I ever had.
But, I just found out I'm getting access to fiber next summer. 100/20 is what will be offered. That's currently in town at $92/month. Really don't know if I'll sign up for it though. About have to, but other than pings I don't care to pay nearly double for something I'd barely notice a difference with (I've used in town to compare).

Or the tons of people living in rural areas that otherwise have no internet options besides either super-slow-and-latent geosync satellites with data caps... or antique DSL lines with 1/10th the speed of Starlink.
It's not -at all- competition for folks who have access to fiber and cable modems- and not intended to be.
When I had it it was providing 100gb pretty reliably at a house that before that maxed out at 8-10 mb DSL for example.
I've since moved and have google fiber, so I sold the starlink HW to the folks who bought the rural house in question and AFAIK they're still enjoying it.

1) . Do you have good cell service at home? A mobile hotspot may be the way to go for internet outages at home. Can keep near the window for best connection. Or does cell service go down during power outages/big storms too in addition to your landline internet?
As far as Starlink Standard vs Starlink Mini....Mini is best for on the go. It's smaller panel, uses less watts, and doesn't require a separate Wifi Router. You can fit the entire Starlink Mini in an APache 3800/4800, including a battery bank for powering it for a bit.
2) What cell service do you have? If you have a MVNO (Mint, MetroPCS, Straight Talk, TracFone, Boost, etc), you are getting deprioritized.
1) other than maybe a backup form of internet after a major major natural disaster where cell network would be down in addition to the landline electrical and fiber grid (like the recent hurricanes, or older hurricanes like hurricane sandy which took out the entire east coast even up through NYC).
2) you frequently take trips to areas without reliable cell service, or that don't have cell service at all
If you have a lakehouse in say, rural wherever, the Mini may not even be the best option. The lower cost Standard kit would be better. Mini is mainly for being on the go

IS this the best/cheapest deal out there? I dont need blazing fast speed - just something that will work when we lose power.
I can't even make phone calls on my cell when my wifi is out - usually I have to walk outside and even then its not great. Thats our biggest issue.
I have my fiber on a UPS, so if its just power loss that keeps us going for a while, but when lose lines are down as well we're SOL.

If you never plan to leave your home with it though you could go with the standard sized one which is less expensive. I personally prefer the much smaller form factor, various power options (can easily run off car or battery bank), and general portability of the Mini.
