In general I think 8x are a better fit for most people since what you gain in a larger object you generally lose due to additional bounce when handheld. You also generally lose a pretty big chunk of field-of-view so it's harder to locate some targets. With that caveat, I'll say that this is a great deal. The Diamondback is right in the sweet spot where you get very good optics before the price starts jumping up for diminishing returns.

Obviously a fair bit pricier, but Cabela's/Bass Pro has the Vortex Viper 10x42 binoculars for $300. They are the next tier up in quality from the Diamondback. Both are good, but trying then out instore I was surprised to be able to tell a significant difference and opted for the Vipers.

Ah that's a common mix up. This is the HD variant with the upgraded multi coating.

The version you linked was the older version from a few years back and is not labeled HD.

Would these be good for viewing planets and things? Like when a comet is passing the Earth and they say it can be seen with binoculars, would these be a good fit for that? Thanks!

I was able to see Saturn's rings a few years ago with mine. Not really their purpose though.
