NBC Shakeup -- Jay Leno Comes Out on Top [tmz.com]
No words on what will happen to Conan and Fallon... whether they both will get pushed back one hour of if one of them will be fired.
I prefer Leno at 11:30 than 10:00.

We've learned Jay's 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided -- whether Jay's show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay's show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O'Brien. We're told Jay and Conan have both been told of the changes. As for Jay, interestingly, he'll get what he always wanted -- his 11:30 PM time slot. |

This is the only evidence I have heard that he "negotiated". He was told he was moving back to 11:30
Jay Leno was forced into retirement by NBC (which wanted to keep Conan). Jay Leno accept it gracefully because he didn't want to repeat what happened with David Letterman.
They are still in the same company so your scenario was flawed. You moved to another job position but the person who replaced you isn't performing. Your boss wants you back to your old position. Your job contract dictate that you have to remain with the company. What do you do?
Jay Leno was basically forced into the corner by NBC contract.
Leno and NBC Strike 1 Hour 'Tonight' Deal
Posted Jan 14th 2010 8:43PM by TMZ Staff
Jay Leno has made a new deal with NBC, which gives him "The Tonight Show" from 11:35 - 12:35 ... sources tell TMZ.
As we first reported, under the contract Jay had been working under, he was guaranteed the 10 PM hour. By moving him to 11:35, NBC was in breach of his contract and needed to negotiate a new deal. That is now done, sources tell TMZ.
So Conan O'Brien is out, and Jay is restored.

they work under the same company
if your boss came and said "hey we're gonna outsource your position, but you can go back to your previous administrator position, you want in?"
and you asked the question "Whats that do to bob who has it now" and they said "Dont worry he'll just get shuffled into another department position" would you say no?
Would you rather be fired and jobless? or go back to your old job

Ask me I'd rather be paid for doing nothing until my contract is up or backstabbing my successor that waited patiently for his promotion when he could've gone to a competitor 6 years ago, and the answer is EASY.

If a coach gets fired, they get paid the rest of their guarantee contract.
However if they wish to work for another team, the contract is nulled and their new contract overrides it or offsets to it.
Leno's situation is like when a player asks for a release from a team, but doesn't get it. Similar to what's happening with T-Mac right now.
With Leno, what you're saying is basically even though he still has the ability to carry a show and is still considered in his prime, he should be cockblocked basically from doing any further job and just go home and collect his paycheck? Doing nothing everyday gets boring really fast.

So if leno's 11:35 tonight show goes back to #1 within the next year or so, does that mean we don't hear from you on the podium/tech support/lounge/slickdeals in general ever again as you'll be wrong YET AGAIN like majority of your posts?
I love idiots who deal in absolute claims when its impossible to determine this.
Only makes you look foolish. Just like your little Crucial Memory debacle last week

He wanted his outright release 6 years ago after the agreement happened to move on from the tonight show, nbc wouldn't let him. so its similar to Tmac's shit now.
edit: According to USA Today, Leno's contract signed in 2004 lasted through 2009. That means if he was under contract beyond December of last year, it's because of the NEW contract that he signed for the 10pm show.

however, he doesn't decide who does what on NBC.
NBC Executives have to make that decision, he also does NOT dictate that Conan can't stay on the Tonight Show.
You're giving Leno WAY too much power. Leno wants to keep working, you can't fault someone who wants to keep working. ITs not like leno owns NBC and decides the stipulation, the way you're acting all the blame is on Leno and 0 is on NBC Executives WHO ARE THE ONES WHO BLOTCHED THIS BS in the 1st place

local affiliates own the timeslots after 10pm. They'll have to come up with some agreement to restructure their news timeslot and/or come up with a way for the advertising during the proposed-Conan's show.
