Leno returned to 11:30pm time slot

NBC Shakeup -- Jay Leno Comes Out on Top [tmz.com]

No words on what will happen to Conan and Fallon... whether they both will get pushed back one hour of if one of them will be fired.

I prefer Leno at 11:30 than 10:00.

Agreed on Pippen, you're taking about a Top 50 player all time. It's fair to say he wouldn't have 6 rings without Jordan, but he'd be a top player on any team he played on. In '94 and '95, while Jordan was playing baseball, Pippen was first team All-NBA AND he went to the All-Star game both years, even winning AS MVP in '94.

He's put out over a dozen albums and has collaborated with a ton of other musicians. The point is, the tonight show band gig was NOT the high point of his career. He's a great musician, he's not a popular musician like the pretty faces you see on tv. If you asked me who was the better musician, Marsalis or Britney Spears, the answer is a no-brainer. Who do you see more on MTV or hear on Z100?

A musician's success is not tied to his popularity. Is Yo Yo Ma the best player of any instrument in any orchestra simply because he's the one who's name you know? Unlikely.

I wasn't commenting on talent level but just popularity/notoriety/recognizability (pick your word). Those who aren't diehard Eubanks fans won't see him if he leaves Leno's show.

I didn't mean to defend anyone, but just wanted to say that if Eubanks leaves, I think it'll be a worse move for him in terms of the recognition factor and possibly monetary. However, it's true that money can't buy happiness and if Eubanks doesn't feel fulfilled in Leno's show and wants to do something else, then by all means he should go for it. I don't know why Richter originally left O'Brien's show, but in his case, it turned out to be something worthy of failblog. laugh out loud

How many championships did Pippen win after he wasn't with the Bulls? I'm not saying that Pippen wasn't talented, but he wouldn't have won any w/o Jordan. I still think Jordan would've won w/o Pippen, but perhaps not as many. There's nothing wrong w/ being a #2 to the #1.

Ok, but so what? Why should Eubanks crave that stuff? If he's a great musician then it should be obvious why he wants to go back on tour and get back in the studio, instead of wasting his time fronting a tv band for maybe 10 mins a night between segments. Why should a great musician want 300 ppl to hear him play 5 minute sets, and millions to hear him play 15 secs as the show transitions to commercials? That sounds like a freakin' nightmare to me, if I were a serious musician and not just a smiling face for Leno to bounce his lame jokes off of.

How many championships did Jordan win without Pippen? How many times did he even get to a Conference semifinals, which Pippen did without him? Jordan has a sum total of ONE playoff win without Pippen. That's not one championship, it's not one series, it's ONE GAME. There's no question that Jordan was #1, but the notion that that diminishes Pippen somehow is dumb. Pippen has some more jewelry because of Jordan, that's all. He'd have been an all-time great and a Hall of Famer either way.

You left out the other piece of my quote, where I pretty much said the same thing, but much more concisely.

I put together a slew of reasons why he would have. He was an all-star and took teams deep into the playoffs without Jordan. And the Bulls were pretty similar before and after Pippen got there, but as soon as he did they started winning playoff series' instead of getting swept every year. Pippen is absolutely a Hall of Famer without Jordan, you put forth no evidence that he isn't. You saying it doesn't make it true.

Yea but you dismiss it as Eubanks wanting to do "something else", as though he's taking a career turn for the worse because he's not happy. Eubanks is a musician, getting back into music instead of being a smiling face on TV is a great choice IMO. It shouldn't be about money or recognition. A monkey could do what he does on The Tonight Show, he has way too much talent for that. When his career as a musician is all said and done, his time on The Tonight Show will be a dark point in his career, not a high point. He's not creating or performing anything significant there. Just because more people see him does not make the job better.

so how does that explain jordan from 1985-1991?
6 year span where he was putting up lights out numbers, but no rings.

You can try to downplay pippen as much as you want, but pippen would definitely have been a HOF and a top 50 player without MJ even without the ring.

Like I said, it depends on what Eubanks' real motive is in leaving the Leno show, assuming he does. If he's doing it b/c he thinks he'll be more popular or make more $ elsewhere, I think he's mistaken, like Andy Richter was. If he's doing it b/c he wants to be a real musician and not be restricted to the format of a late night program, then by all means I wish Eubanks the best and hope his musical career flourishes.

I honestly don't give two shits though what his ratings are. He's better than Fallon, Ferguson or Letterman by a mile. That's all the reasoning I need to watch him.
