Leno returned to 11:30pm time slot

NBC Shakeup -- Jay Leno Comes Out on Top [tmz.com]

Quote :
We've learned Jay's 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided -- whether Jay's show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay's show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O'Brien.

We're told Jay and Conan have both been told of the changes. As for Jay, interestingly, he'll get what he always wanted -- his 11:30 PM time slot.
No words on what will happen to Conan and Fallon... whether they both will get pushed back one hour of if one of them will be fired.

I prefer Leno at 11:30 than 10:00.

EEK! Really?

I honestly don't give two shits though what his ratings are. He's better than Fallon, Ferguson or Letterman by a mile. That's all the reasoning I need to watch him.
clearly which is why he gets the cushy time slot/network. wait out a week i'm pretty sure leno will get ~ 5 mill viewers, letterman gets ~ 4 mill, and everything goes back to normal.

it was a bad few months, just nbc lost its gamble that conan was the next tonight show host. his bits don't work in the 11:30 slot. majority of people don't find him funny.

Jimmy Kimmel is good, but it's wrong to say he's far better than those people.

I know you're not referring to Leno, who's awful as a talk show host, because I have too much respect for your intellect and taste in comedy.

At the same time, your saying that Pippen would be in the HoF w/ or w/o Jordan doesn't make it true either. Wink
Pippen played like an All-Star in both years of his prime that Jordan wasn't around and took his team deep into the playoffs. There's evidence there. You have no evidence that Jordan could win championships without Pippen. Jordan did not get better in the 90s than he was in the 80s, he just had a better surrounding cast. And that's no small feat, because Charles Oakley as a power forward was every bit the defensive player that Pippen was. But Pippen was a unique talent that could guard anyone from 1-4 and shut down an opposing team's star, and he'd bring the ball up the court as a 'point forward', allowing the Bulls to basically put shooters like Steve Kerr in at the second guard whenever they needed to without missing a traditional point guard.

Leno's "bits" didn't work in the 11:30 slot when compared to Carson's either, and he had less competition 15 years ago than exists today. He was awarded the time to build an audience because Carson didn't hang over his head waiting for his job back like a douche. NBC didn't lose it's gamble, they folded on the flop.

Of course Leno is getting ratings, this whole situation is still a story. Conan got good ratings towards the end too. The proof will be in the pudding if/when Conan returns to late night opposite Leno and after some time has passed beyond that and everyone settles into their normal viewing patterns.

PS- How convenient that none of the Leno fanboys are noting that there were two brand new Law and Orders were the lead in for the news that night, instead of the putrid Leno show at 10pm. Let's see how many viewers the 10p L&O had, and how many CSI Miami lost, before you conclude that Leno is the prodigal son returning.

it was his first episode. conan had higher ratings on his first episode. you need to wait till next week to get an accurate read on success.
His 1st episode? News to me. I thought Leno's been doing this for 17+ years. Confused

The consensus in this thread seems to be that Leno got O'Brien fired and O'Brien fans are pissed at Leno for that.

I'm not pro or anti Leno. I do enjoy his show and I also enjoyed O'Brien's. Too bad they're no longer on the same network. I'll watch Leno's show this week and then I'll just spot watch late night TV shows based on the guests, either Leno or Letterman. (I don't care about the rest until O'Brien returns.)

And Leno did? I believe it's the affiliates that controlled the fate. They wanted the 10PM slot to have something that was appropriate for that time slot, not an 1130-style show at 10PM.

Conan only got good ratings after it was announced he was in a spat with NBC. Sure, controversy builds ratings but hell, you can't use the last 2 weeks of a show to call it a success. You can't really use the first two weeks either to claim success, but you can use them to claim failure.

There was a new L&O? Good thing you'd told me, because that definitely changes everything. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

What leads in to the news here doesn't matter... because NBC in Tallahassee has no 11PM news Wink. I'd turn the channel anyway because Deal or No Deal makes me Sick. And yes, that's actually what comes on at 11PM. We get one channel that has an actual news show at the 10PM-11PM slot.

I never claimed Leno was the "prodigal son returning" to save NBC. Hell, I think the network's failing right now. I don't really watch any of their shows. All the good ones are syndicated on our Fox station of all things anyway. Oh, and great comparison there. Comparing Leno to Obama.... We're not trying to make this political are we? laugh out loud

Because something's wrong when a top comedian never does better than a typical local morning radio program.

So who is the top comedian? Leno? Letterman? Conan? Fallon?

I'm confused.

Leno continues high ratings streak [cnn.com]

Also, congrats to Fallon for outlasting Leno and O'Brien. This week, his show surpassed 1 year and 200 shows. He kicked Ferguson's ass again. Cool
