Leno returned to 11:30pm time slot

NBC Shakeup -- Jay Leno Comes Out on Top [tmz.com]

Quote :
We've learned Jay's 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided -- whether Jay's show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay's show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O'Brien.

We're told Jay and Conan have both been told of the changes. As for Jay, interestingly, he'll get what he always wanted -- his 11:30 PM time slot.
No words on what will happen to Conan and Fallon... whether they both will get pushed back one hour of if one of them will be fired.

I prefer Leno at 11:30 than 10:00.

you do know shaggy's the most anti-leno person on these forums, and will argue anything conan does now is better/deserves better/yada yada.
Yeah, he ranks up there. laugh out loud

There's another thread somewhere that was made for the start of Conan's new show where some people commented.

It was fantastic. Conan looked looser and more at home. Felt like Late Night. Conan and Andy were fantastic. The interviews weren't the greatest.

Tom Hanks is on tonight!

Full episodes can be found on Teamcoco.com.
Cool, glad it was entertaining for you. I'm BT'ing it as we speak. Too much crap to get it from tbs.com (which is where Hulu redirected me). Ditto for teamcoco.com. BT makes it easy (eztv rox!).

Conan was Conan. It was nothing special, it was typical, funny Conan. I don't know that I'll watch him that much in the first half hour, I still like Jon Stewart better, but I'll probably take a look at Conan the next day online.
After taking the anti-Leno position for all this time, the least you can do is support Conan for a week or a month or a year or so. laugh out loud

I'll hopefully get around to Conan's 1st show tonight, but if not, then I will by tomorrow night and will post comments.

One thing that he needs to do is lose the beard. It only works for Brian "Fear the Beard" Wilson, the Giants' relief pitcher. On O'Brien, it makes him look as old as Leno. shake head

O'Brien could've taken the high road and say something like, "Leno being on the show is not on the immediate plans for this show" instead of making a lame joke on how Leno could be the musical guest on his show.
Not if he wanted to be truthful and not Leno-like.

It's not a lie when you want everybody to know you're not telling the truth. Leno-loving losers who've been the target of Leno's pandering to the idiocracy may not understand that.

Why? I'm not a Conan fanboy, I just think he got a raw deal and that he's way better than Leno. I like Stewart the best, I'm not gonna abandon him. Plus, I don't have Nielsen box, so me watching live on Dish Network doesn't "support him". If anything me watching the next day online supports him more, because they can track that I'm watching.

I'm one of those who's not a lover or hater of any of those 3: Letterman, Leno, or O'Brien. If they were all on at the same time on broadcast stations, I'd probably watch whoever has the most intriguing guests. During the rare times I watch Late Night TV, I usually flip between Letterman and Leno, but more Leno, b/c his stand-up/monologue is better. Note that the only show I've seen live is Letterman's, and ironically enough, it was his 1st show after the story came out that he slept w/ various chicks on his staff (no pun intended laugh out loud ).

OK, so you're not an O'Brien hater, just a Leno hater.

Speaking of Conan: 'Conan' gives us set déja vu [cnn.com].

This person's comment in the article pretty much nails it:
Quote from Nancy :
5 years before Conan took over the Tonight Show his contract was up for renewal for his show. Conan refused to renew unless he was promised the Tonight Show in 5 years. So NBC got Jay to agree to that and promised Jay they would support Jay in another venture. Then 5 years later, Conan is tanking on the Tonight Show. Jay is failing at his Prime Time show. So NBC wants to keep both guys AGAIN, so tries to get Conan to back up the Tonight Show 30 minutes and give Jay a half-hour show before it. Conan refused, so he was fired and NBC moved Jay back in. Jay didn't push NBC into firing Conan, NBC was just being selfish trying to keep both of them and it didn't work. So they decided Jay was the better one to keep. The whole mess started with Conan bullying NBC into giving him the Tonight Show before Jay was ready to leave. NBC was greedy trying to keep both of them happy and it backfired in their face.

I was never a Leno hater before this incident, I just didn't think he was funny. But after this, yea, I have very little respect for him.

I rarely stay for the guests unless I like them a lot. To me late night is all about everything BEFORE the guests/music. I stay if there's a comedian coming instead of a musical guest, I enjoy that. When you have to pick between the different monologues and bits, who do you choose?

They gave Conan a few months as host... not really fair to call it a "failure" at that point in time.

I don't know that you can characterize Conan's position as "bullying", he was starting to get interest from ABC and FOX to host his own show competing with TTS and TLS. He wasn't going to sign long term with NBC without exploring that. NBC didn't want to lose him, so they offered him TTS after consulting with Leno and he agreed to step down. It was not quid pro quo as you imply, he actually wanted to step down. The Jay Leno Show offer came way later. He literally said that he couldn't host this show into his 60s, only Carson could do that. Then he went back on his word. If you agree to pass the baton to someone, you don't hang over their head, you just don't. Leno never would've survived if Carson hung over his head.

I also typically don't watch the musical guest unless it's a band I enjoy. But I'll at least watch the 1st guest unless it's some boring chump. Between Leno's and Letterman's monologues and bits, I choose Leno. But Letterman is the better interviewer. (His interview w/ Madonna in the mid '90s was the best ever.)

I just saw Conan's 1st episode on TBS. It was pretty good. The opening skit w/ him getting shot up a million times was boring. His monologue was funny, like him joking that the audience's clapping was longer than his previous job. He tries to laugh too hard whenever Andy Richter makes a comment.

Seth Rogen was pretty funny. He's lost a lot of weight. The Glee chick is pretty damn hot. The musical guest (Jack White) was OK, but cool to see Conan play the guitar and sing w/ him. As expected, O'Brien did stuff that he used to in his 12:30 slot that he didn't in the 11:30 slot.

I BT'd Ep. 2 (in 13 min.) and will try to watch that tomorrow night.

Does anyone know how O'Brien's ratings have been and if it's met expectations or not?

Thanks, that's great info. In other words, Conan is getting owned by the network shows, as expected. And Leno has regained the lead over Letterman. (Take that, Leno haters.)

Why would more people watch the inferior Leno than watch the better Letterman or Conan, unless they're idiots who can't see obvious jokes from a mile away? Sure, Letterman isn't trying, but neither is Leno, and Fallon does games better than Leno does.
