Leno returned to 11:30pm time slot

NBC Shakeup -- Jay Leno Comes Out on Top [tmz.com]

Quote :
We've learned Jay's 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided -- whether Jay's show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay's show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O'Brien.

We're told Jay and Conan have both been told of the changes. As for Jay, interestingly, he'll get what he always wanted -- his 11:30 PM time slot.
No words on what will happen to Conan and Fallon... whether they both will get pushed back one hour of if one of them will be fired.

I prefer Leno at 11:30 than 10:00.

This also proves my point that Fallon > Ferguson according to the majority. nod
By your reasoning, Olive Garden > real Italian restaurant.

NBC should can Leno and replace him with Fallon. At least Fallon is funny and knows how to do a show. OK, he's not as funny as Ferguson because nobody is.

What are you smoking? Your analogy is so off that it barely merits a reply, but I'll address it anyway. Fallon's and Ferguson's shows are both on free TV at the same time. That means they're equally accessible to everyone and at the same cost. Your analogy of the restaurants is terrible b/c those restaurants aren't equally accessible to everyone, not to mention they're not priced the same.

Which is why you replied. laugh out loud

You've repeatedly claimed that someone is better because he's more popular than someone else, so the Olive Garden/real Italian restaurant comparison is a valid analogy. OTOH access has nothing to do with either the restaurants or comedians.

You really need to stop obsessing over Leno.

I said *barely* worth a reply, so hence I did.

The post in discussion had nothing to do w/ Leno. It was Fallon vs. Fergie.

Anyone check out Paul Reiser on Leno? It was pretty funny/ironic how he ripped NBC for canceling his show so quickly, referencing all their "good" decisions and how they've found their niche as the last place network and wouldn't want to jeopardize that. He did it in a passive aggressive, comedic way though. His point of view is 100% correct, although I wouldn't necessarily agree that his show was any good (and I wanted badly to like it, I'm a big Reiser fan).

They basically came to him and brought him out of retirement to create a show. He agreed to do it and made 7 episodes, then they force it onto the air on a week's notice with hardly any promotion, against American Idol of all things. It would've had to be a top 10 show to succeed under those conditions. Again, I don't think the show would've lasted, it just didn't seem funny, but how do you do that after 2 episodes to a guy that once built a huge hit for your network?! At least run the 7 eps he shot, or at the very least put it on hiatus and try again in the summer. To just completely cancel the show didn't seem appropriate when you didn't do anything to help it succeed to begin with, you just threw him to the wolves.

^ I recall seeing a promo for it or 2, but since I'm not a Paul Reiser fan, I didn't pay any attention to it.

Speaking of promoting shows, I've never seen any network promote a show so much as NBC did "The Voice" the past couple months. That alone made me *not* want to see it. But I heard "The Voice" came in #1 last night in the 18-49 demographic.

Funny thing, the other guest on Leno that same night was Christina Aguilera, and Reiser made a comment about how they canceled his show to promote hers (she was sitting right next to him). Again, in jest and in the context of telling jokes, but when the comments hit so close to home I'm sure that knife cuts deep.

I haven't watch TV much lately, but I hate when they do that to shows. I remember when Heroes was coming out and they had previews on all the time! I got to a theater early one day and they showed this Heroes preview over and over and over.

That alone made me dislike the show and not want to watch it. (I ended up watching it halfway through the first season though, and loved it! Then later of course, it turned to crap...)

Ouch to Aguilera. Reiser should've also joked to her if she's brushed up on the lyrics to the National Anthem. That would've been gold! And it would've made her turn so red so fast. laugh out loud

That reminds me of NBC promoting the hell out of "The Cape" late last year and early this year. And that show turned out to be crap. shake head

You know what though? In this day and age of shows getting very little leeway to find an audience, promotion is just flat out necessary. Most shows today don't get much more than their initial 13 episode order, if that (hell, look at Reiser's show, 2 eps!). If you don't promote these shows vigorously AND don't give them time to find an audience, they just aren't going to succeed, and we're just gonna see more and more reality crap about people switching wives or hiring a new nanny. Basically any crap that they can make for like $150k/episode and then sell $3M of advertising for.

Kudos to Leno for taking a huge pay cut [cnn.com] to prevent more of his staff from being laid off. nod

"Tonight Show" will move from CA to NY in the Fall of 2014 and Fallon is expected to take over for Leno. [nytimes.com]

After a shaky start, Fallon has done really well as the host of "Late Night" and recently hit his 4-year anniversary there. Leno continues kicking Letterman's (and now Kimmel's) respective asses in the 11:30 pm ET time slot. The bitter O'Brien is now forgotten. laugh out loud

I think O'Brien still has quite a following. Do you blame him though for being mad at the fiasco from a few years ago?

I'm not sure how somebody could blame him. He should be blaming Leno for his poor ratings at 11:35. Leno gave the local stations dismal lead-ins which in term gave Conan dismal lead-ins. I'm not a fan of either of them but it is pretty obvious that Leno was the cause of the failure.
