My surface pro can do anything a "true" laptop does, including high resource activities like photo editing and 3D rendering. I wouldn't let the form factor deter you.

Fyi you can get shells to convert these to true-ish laptops. Without the shells, these things suck when you try to use them on a non-hard surface (knees, couch, bed, one-handed typing while walking around the house, etc)
For digital art on a laptop, I haven't found a better device for the price.

interesting, can you share some examples that convert it into a clam shell laptop style. I have seen for ipads but never for windows tablets...

You'll want to consider 3rd party keyboards with an internal battery IF you want to type wirelessly. (Eg keyboard in lap, tablet on table.) These do not have to be designed to dock with the surface if you don't care.

Also, if you use at night, maybe there's a kb that has always on backlighting. Afaik, most turn off automatically after a few seconds - dumb design.

The Alcantara (polyester blend fabric) on the oem kb will tear, fray, get gross, and no way to sanitize/clean well. Buy, use, toss, repeat.

Great deal on a loaded surface, even without the keyboard. I bought a refurbished i5 surface pro 9 last year and its been excellent. The Microsoft keyboard is great and doesn't show any wear after a year. My old surface pro 3 only showed wear after several years at the corners. The surface pro 9 has an easy to replace hard drive: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/d...verviewtab

Don't buy a genetic keyboard unless you need to type with the laptop in a different location, the keypad and track pad aren't great and it's another thing to charge.
