Anyone wanting to "JAILBREAK" this don't spend all your time trying to input ADB code, you can if that's your thing but I would rather get to using this right away, download POJECTIVY LAUNCHER (https://play.google.com/store/app...n_US&pli=1). It does all the programming in the background so you don't have to. It's FREEMIUM Launcher available directly from the play store but well worth the $7-8 bucks to change wallpaper and extra features. It already makes the launcher the default screen when hitting the home button for free using accessibility permissions. If you want to take it to another level also get Button Mapper and change the buttons on the remote to open something else. Don't forget to click BUILD VERSION 5 times... Located in system > about to activate developer settings. Notable addons and mentions are obviously DOWNLOADER, MOONLIGHT REMOTE GAME STREAMING from PC, CX EXPLORER to sideload APKS via network, SMARtTUBE - zero add youtube app (28544 downloader code), STREMIO (with Premiumize. STAY AWAY from Real-debrid, they turned on their clients), Fosmon Mini Bluetooth Keyboard, & the TRENDnet 2.5G USB-C to RJ-45 Ethernet Adapter (Built in ethernet only does 100mb/s.) I have EVERY STREAMER from apple tv to nvidia shield (TUBE & PRO), roku, firesticks, and chromecasts.. This IS the best bang for buck android tv at this price as of 12/2024. New On version pending in 2025 to replace Google TV 4K Streaming Box - ONN 4k pro plus (- this version only has 2gb so still not an alternative for this): https://www.androidtv-guide.com/s...google-tv/
I bought this yesterday. I highly recommend the Launcher "Projectivy Launcher" to replace the default launcher. Removes all the ads and let's you customize your screen as much or as little as you want. Removes all the bloat from Google TV. You can download it from the app store.
10/100 is a reasonable cost-saving measure for a streaming device. 4K streaming only requires about 15-20 Mbps. 100 Mbps is plenty for streaming media over the internet or even over a LAN. The only time you'd get the benefits of gigabit is if you're downloading/transferring large files, which device isn't really designed to do and most people don't do often on their streaming devices.

Can anyone with this test under Kodi which types of audio codec/streams it can decode? I know the basic small one can't decode DTS audio. I'm wondering if this can. Thank you.
Yes, this why I have KODI installed. I have library of my own BLU Ray/DVD rips and home videos that I can stream local content. Setup SMB connection in KODI, have SMB to my Nvidia Shield which has Hard Drive connected and shared out and also Windows 11 that also has USB external hard drive shared out.
Can you stream mkv 20gb+ files to the onn without it stuttering? My Chromecast stutters... Not certain if it's network speed or processor speed causing issue.
Any reason to upgrade to this over the standard Onn 4k?
The only reason I want to get one of these over the regular one I have now is it has a USB port so I can play all my movies from a hard drive and I think the find the remote button on the box is pretty cool.

Yes! this is a lot more usefull than you would think. It seems to work properly as well. I aded my logitech 400+ keyboard via a regular usb hub.. easy peasy..
I have been using a PI4 to run stremio and Linage os. Each have its own quirks that make it less than Ideal. Basicaly I could not get that USB port to work as a destination for data storage. I would have to set storage to be local the download directory. Often limited by a fire stick and to lesser extent 4kmax and cubes. With this I steer to the tiles to usb and it works! Just what I was looking for in why I try all the Pi variants.
22gb free after my normal apps installed is a big help and adresses my beefs on the just about all of the streamers.
It works better and cooler than my PI in a argon4 case. For the price it is a bargin.
Yea the pi can do a lot more, and will in the future, but this will be my daily driver after almost a week of using it. The remote on my box (2415A) seems to be back lit, but is my only complaint. I think the fire tv remotes are better. Firmer and I do miss the fast Forward button. It seems kind of cheapy, but it was not like this was the first ONN box I bought either. I knew by the picture what to expect.

I'm also curious about this and the USB media capabilities of the device.
My guess is that it can't decode DTS as any device which does has to pay a fee for the DTS license on each sale. Which is why many newer TVs and stuff don't decode DTS anymore.
However, it'd be great if someone who owns this could test it and let us know for sure. Can't find any info online about this.
Anybody have this and the first gen of the $20 Onn streamer box? I've used a few other Android boxes in the past and use the older, cheap non-pro Onn box now, mainly for Kodi addons. For other streaming, we mainly use Roku apps directly on our TVs because they work fine. I don't really have a problem with Kodi on the more basic Onn box but I can't help but wonder if anyone really prefers this beefier, newer one, and why. I'm thinking about upgrading and not sure my limited usage really warrants that, but definitely open to hearing opinions.

any significant improvements between this and the last gen non 4k?
I have both the 2021 version (w/ LOS on it) as well as this newly obtained 2024 Pro version. Still playing around with the PRO and have noticed differences (mainly interface & GUI responsiveness) but overall app performance (as well as kodi) feels the same to me on both. I got the PRO due to the sale price and because I needed an extra one for the kitchen. The backlit & find my remote feature is nice, but not needed in my case. The old one can run off the tv's usb port, while the PRO has a 12v 1.5A brick to power it.
Is it worth the upgrade from the non-pro? Depends if you need a USB / ethernet port, wifi-6 and the extra storage space for apps.

Does projectivity have the 'resume' from last app feature in the home screen? Google tv launcher is clunky and fat but I like the resume from Netflix, YT, prime. Etc
Yes, you can select what channels you do and don't want it to pull from. I turn that off, but I understand the appeal, just not for me.

Oh, thank you. I haven't messed with LOS or other ROMs in so long, it didn't even occur to me that these might have some support. My old one's storage is nearly full, which seems odd since I only really use it for Kodi, so extra space is always welcome, as is a USB port. I could use one more Kodi-capable box and don't really want to mess with the old non-name Android boxes in the back of my office closet, so this might be the one to pick up.
Bought this one for people concerned about remote . Yes it's the new one with backlight and freetv (Model 2438A, 2024 manufacturing) option anyway the box itself supports most functions thru my lg magic remote . DV works as expected both on streams and local media for local media VLC doesn't support DV use justplayer

The issue is Kodi's thumbnail caching. It fills up your storage quick without any real way of clearing those files out. I ended up offloading / redirecting kodi's cache directory to my SMB network attached drive instead and it has kept the ONN box with over 2gb of storage after the fact.

This $40 Onn 4k Pro Atmos has quad core and 32gb. Does 4k60 without any problems . Not all of us need this features.
Its the difference between a PS4 and PS5.
