Anyone wanting to "JAILBREAK" this don't spend all your time trying to input ADB code, you can if that's your thing but I would rather get to using this right away, download POJECTIVY LAUNCHER (https://play.google.com/store/app...n_US&pli=1). It does all the programming in the background so you don't have to. It's FREEMIUM Launcher available directly from the play store but well worth the $7-8 bucks to change wallpaper and extra features. It already makes the launcher the default screen when hitting the home button for free using accessibility permissions. If you want to take it to another level also get Button Mapper and change the buttons on the remote to open something else. Don't forget to click BUILD VERSION 5 times... Located in system > about to activate developer settings. Notable addons and mentions are obviously DOWNLOADER, MOONLIGHT REMOTE GAME STREAMING from PC, CX EXPLORER to sideload APKS via network, SMARtTUBE - zero add youtube app (28544 downloader code), STREMIO (with Premiumize. STAY AWAY from Real-debrid, they turned on their clients), Fosmon Mini Bluetooth Keyboard, & the TRENDnet 2.5G USB-C to RJ-45 Ethernet Adapter (Built in ethernet only does 100mb/s.) I have EVERY STREAMER from apple tv to nvidia shield (TUBE & PRO), roku, firesticks, and chromecasts.. This IS the best bang for buck android tv at this price as of 12/2024. New On version pending in 2025 to replace Google TV 4K Streaming Box - ONN 4k pro plus (- this version only has 2gb so still not an alternative for this): https://www.androidtv-guide.com/s...google-tv/
I bought this yesterday. I highly recommend the Launcher "Projectivy Launcher" to replace the default launcher. Removes all the ads and let's you customize your screen as much or as little as you want. Removes all the bloat from Google TV. You can download it from the app store.
10/100 is a reasonable cost-saving measure for a streaming device. 4K streaming only requires about 15-20 Mbps. 100 Mbps is plenty for streaming media over the internet or even over a LAN. The only time you'd get the benefits of gigabit is if you're downloading/transferring large files, which device isn't really designed to do and most people don't do often on their streaming devices.

Received it. Set it up. Works so well. Returning my Fire TV 4K Max I purchased two weeks ago. Even for the latest gen it's too sluggish and stutters too much.
4k HDR 120 fps takes up like 10-15 mpbs. Regular 4k takes up like 5-10 mpbs. They are compress as hell. 100 mpbs is MORE than enough for 4k streaming.
For Netflix or other streaming services, sure, it'll be fine for the time being. Locally-hosted content on the other hand can definitely choke a 100mbps connection. Personally it doesn't concern me that much since my TVs max out at 1080p and I don't have any 4K BR rips.
And as for gigabit being the norm, no it strangely is not the norm on streaming devices, just nearly everything else with an ethernet port for quite some time now. PCs I bought over 20 years ago came with GigE cards, and seeing as how it's so widely used now I can't imagine using 10/100 instead saves much money.
can i watch my 4k remuxes on my own plex server without lag ? I run plex server off of an old thinkpad that is connected to my router via ethernet. My 4k firestick max lags now, but I do not have the ethernet adapter for it ...
Well seeing nvidia has finally abandoned the shield after about 8 years of updates, if I was needing another TV streamer I would get this one. Pretty weird that walmart of all people make the best streamer for the best price but whatevers
Nvidia is not doing any more updates for the Shield? Just checked Shield reddit and it says nothing about this. Where did you get this info?

These have so many more capability than a Roku ultra or anything else that I'm aware of on the market at this price and I'm an Android power user so I guess I just fell in love and I bought four after the first one

You'll have to go back about a year. Android 11's end of life was back in February. The only updates has been to fix their own software. Around the time they gave up on their crappy GameStream app and said there was no plans for a Android 12 or 14 upgrade. It took nvidia forever to fix GeForce Now from constantly crashing. Match frame rate still doesnt work correctly.

What version of Android in Onn using? I need devices that will passthrough Dolby TrueHD & DTS HD MA for my most used TVs so Onn is only suitable for me for bedroom TVs.
