No regrets after ordering U8K100. Here is Rtings comparison

"The Hisense U8/U8K and TCL QM8/QM851G QLED are evenly matched, with only small differences. The TCL is a bit brighter in HDR and SDR, but the Hisense is more accurate in HDR and SDR. The TCL has slightly better image processing. Gamers might prefer the TCL, which has a noticeably faster response time than the Hisense. Ultimately, the Hisense is the better choice if you care about image accuracy. Otherwise, the TCL offers a slightly brighter image."

100 inch is bigger than 98 inch by about size of 20 inch screen.

Both are great TVs for the price. But for 2600$ U8K was a better deal IMO

The price disparity from the 98 to the 115 is crazy. $3k vs $17k.

Depends how their factory is setup. Making glass of 115" size is probably is done by one machine vs like 20 machines that produce 98". Once they will upgrade to more machines, prices will go down.

walts through WM and Amazon opened up December 23rd delivery just a few minutes ago, and a few minutes after ordering sold by Amazon for 26th delivery. smh

WM $139 5 year coverage sounds pretty good if you don't need install.

EDIT: an hour after this post and WM has raised back to 3999 and Walt's through WM has 2 left at the sale price. Same Qty at Walt's @ amazon. Amazon itself has 12 left and has been on a consistent counter 16 down to 8 since last night.

Watched these too long this time. Was settled on the Hisense picture wise over this one, but rtings really under announced the buggy issues on the Hisense like having to reboot or randomly turning on at night, which I now consider heavier than the panel lottery we will all play with these.

And are we SDer's the only ones buying this one? Amazon had it at only 50+ sold this month until yesterday. . .

I'm not going to lie and say these are as good as OLED when it comes to blacks. But they're like 90% of the PQ of OLED for half the price. If you want to pay double for an incremental improvement that's a decision only you can make.On the brightness side, these TVs destroy OLED when it comes to an HDR experience. Especially OLEDs released before the current models. Even the current models that have greatly increased brightness can't touch these TV's from TCL and Hisense. Can you demo a scenario where they look like crap in comparison? For sure. Blank star fields and fireworks are going to be your nemesis with these sets but how often are you actually watching those scenes?
I agree with you completely. Don't get me wrong love my OLED, had an old school wallpaper oled for years, then now have a 77" S90C QDOLED in my bedroom where my wife and I watch tv shows and movies before going to be in the dark, where it really excels. OLED picture quality is just plain better in every way outside of brightness... but unless you are really really into noticing the tiny little details TV PQ now has super diminished returns. I can point out artifacts from motion smoothing, blooming, black detail crush (which OLEDs also often do) and various other things to my wife and countless other people I know. They simply don't see it. Originally OLED black levels were obvious to most people now these LCDs are just so good that honestly most people couldn't tell the difference. Personally that's why I still have an OLED so if I want watch that super dark content and not feel like I'm missing something I have an option but have had a 85" QN900A for a couple years in my primary viewing space and that extra brightness has been fantastic... saw this QM8 98" at the store and was blown away. That size is hard to beat.
People get different things out of experiences. Which is why I usually have to turn off all motion smoothing on any TV, I instantly know it and it drives me crazy. My wife thinks I'm crazy for having that response since it just doesn't bother her, she doesn't even notice it.

For most people I think the PQ improvement of OLED over these well performing LCDs is just not important for most people. So get what you want and enjoy it, right. A lot of people I think will enjoy the extra brightness more than blooming issues they almost never (or never) notice, etc. That's just me though.

Bought last night from Amazon. Just re-bought form BB. Set delivery for 1/31/25; hedging my bets for better deals on this or 100U8K or I don't know what else close to Super Bowl.

A few questions to my more experienced SD'ers:
Any thoughts if we should expect better deals by then?
Also, I assume I will have 15 days FROM DELIVERY BY BB to return, correct?

Anyone wondering this vs other tvs etc I'd recommend going to your best buy and seeing yourself. I was really impressed by the 98 qm8 in person. That insane brightness is impressively addicting. I thought the qm7 was good and at 2k it's a killer deal but the difference was obvious. All these in stock 98" test have poorly rated viewing angles but in person the qm8 was far better IMHO, I think that extra brightness to lose makes that big difference. I had been hoping for the elusive 98ux for viewing angles but honestly was fine with the qm8.

A day before this price drop I bought from best buy for $4k with free install. Price adjusted it to $3k and even happier now.

Personally I'd take it over a 100 U8k at $2600. That extra brightness really hits for me. At $4k I would've ordered the 98" Hisense 98ux at the black Friday $4500 if it ever got in stock. That's the more comparable model. Though at $3k I think the QM8 can't be beat.

Though to be clear IMHO all these tvs are great choices for their own reasons. Make your pick and just enjoy them.
Unfortunately most Bestbuy in area don't have this model out for demo.

U8k routinely scored better on reviews and comparisons. Rtings is just one of several sources. No U8k owner should have buyer's remorse to this panel. But I hope you enjoy yours and firmware updates fixed the bugs
I think you're confusing the U8K (2023) with the U8N (2024), or confusing the 2023 QM8 (QM850G) with the 2024 QM8 (QM851G). Reviewers don't typically compare between models from different years. The 2024 Hisense doesn't have a 100 inch model, and the 2023 model has far less brightness and dimming zones. Some of the complaints like the inaccurate EOTF tracking have also been fixed by the VERY frequent (almost weekly) beta firmware releases which will almost surely amount to a very good OTA release soon.

Are you saying that there are regular firmware updates and fixes for the QM851G? Or the 850, or the U8K or U8N?

Oddly enough they aren't selling a 100" model yet of the u8n but multiple sites show the model # with "TBD." Are you saying they aren't planning to release one or its just not available yet?
