The screen, RAM and SSD all look to be about what I would expect in this price range, and it's a bonus to see that the ports include a 40GB/s USB-C 4 port with PD and DP.
It was hard to find a review of this exact configuration of the Zenbook 15.6", but reviews of similar units claim nice keyboard and trackpad and overall good build quality. At 3.09 lbs this is a portable laptop.
The only reason I would not wholeheartedly recommend this laptop is that for around $550 - $600 you can find deals on a laptop with a newer CPU like the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H or even an Intel Core Ultra 5 with 16GB RAM and 512GB-1TB SSD. These CPUs won't be much faster, but they will be much more energy efficient resulting in much longer battery life. They will also come with an upgrade in integrated graphics.

Alternately if battery life is less important but you want better CPU performance, you can find many laptops on sale for $550-$650 with a 13th Generation Intel 13XX CPU or an AMD Ryzen 7, 77XX or 78XX CPU which will give you much better single and multi-core performance at the cost of lower battery life.

If you see one of these laptops in store and really love the build quality and the screen, then you'll probably be satisfied with it for basic school and office tasks, but for the price I feel like you can get a laptop with a more modern CPU, better graphics and longer battery life (at least 2 of those 3).

Those other laptops are both only 14" though. Too small to be useful for a household device with no attached monitor.
for $100 extra you getting better build quality, lit keyboards and wifi 2x2
use your amex and citi card for extended warrenty
also cpu benchmark rating is only 16k, which is usually available in a $400 laptops.

Not sure if this youtube video re: upgrading the SSD drive applies to this model of laptop? If so it looks like the ram cannot be upgraded though for the price I'm guessing one really can't complain
