The specs on this laptop look like it would make a competent basic laptop for school or business. The older Ryzen 5 7535U CPU is from the Zen3+ generation which is before AMD CPUs took a big jump forward in Zen4. It is about on par with an 11th generation Intel i5 CPU for single core performance, but jumps up to 12th gen i5 or 11th gen i7 on multi-core performance. Its a quality mid-range CPU from 2022-23, but the integrated graphics are a Radeon 660M which is definitely below more modern AMD and Intel integrated graphics in performance.

The screen, RAM and SSD all look to be about what I would expect in this price range, and it's a bonus to see that the ports include a 40GB/s USB-C 4 port with PD and DP.

It was hard to find a review of this exact configuration of the Zenbook 15.6", but reviews of similar units claim nice keyboard and trackpad and overall good build quality. At 3.09 lbs this is a portable laptop.

The only reason I would not wholeheartedly recommend this laptop is that for around $550 - $600 you can find deals on a laptop with a newer CPU like the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H or even an Intel Core Ultra 5 with 16GB RAM and 512GB-1TB SSD. These CPUs won't be much faster, but they will be much more energy efficient resulting in much longer battery life. They will also come with an upgrade in integrated graphics.

Alternately if battery life is less important but you want better CPU performance, you can find many laptops on sale for $550-$650 with a 13th Generation Intel 13XX CPU or an AMD Ryzen 7, 77XX or 78XX CPU which will give you much better single and multi-core performance at the cost of lower battery life.

If you see one of these laptops in store and really love the build quality and the screen, then you'll probably be satisfied with it for basic school and office tasks, but for the price I feel like you can get a laptop with a more modern CPU, better graphics and longer battery life (at least 2 of those 3).
Thanks BCKit for your very helpful review with alternative links. However, the laptops in your links have 14" displays. The Zenbook featured in this deal has, in addition to the base config, a FHD at 15.6" and weighs in at 3.09lbs, which is close to what I am looking for. Any alternative good deals with 15.6" display around 3lbs with the more modern specs you noted? Thanks in advance!

I don't see any currently on SD, but keep an eye on this link filtered for your budget and then look for Intel Core Ultra 7 or Intel Core Ultra 5 as the CPU and your preferred screen size.

Those other laptops are both only 14" though. Too small to be useful for a household device with no attached monitor.

LPDDR5 RAM is soldered and hence not upgradable, right?
also cpu benchmark rating is only 16k, which is usually available in a $400 laptops.

thanks for posting this OP Smilie

Not sure if this youtube video re: upgrading the SSD drive applies to this model of laptop? If so it looks like the ram cannot be upgraded though for the price I'm guessing one really can't complain Smilie

Trying to find an AMD laptop with 400+ nits screen, good specs, and a good battery ridiculously hard. Someone in another thread said Intel strong arms manufacturers to deliberately gimp the AMD offerings. Seems it has to be the case, why would lenovo make the AMD p14s only have a tiny 52Whr battery, but the intel version has a large battery...
