If I remember from a YouTube review, this laptop throttles hard, worse than the comparable Acer Swift Go 14 that was for sale refurb https://slickdeals.net/f/17878938-acer-swift-go-14-cert-refurb-14-2-8k-90hz-oled-intel-ultra-7-155h-16gb-lpddr5-1tb-ssd-575-99?v=1

Got the Acer and it was basically new cosmetically.
So close. If it had an AMD chip I'd pull the trigger.

Cinebench multicore, the Acer scores 8% better than the Asus. The channel reviewed the Asus by itself and he kind of downplayed the throttling, but the Timespy Stress Test doesn't, and gave it a not-passing grade. The Acer passes on the other hand https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K...6YA&t=608s

I wonder how many people buy this model primarily to run heavy GPU scenarios (3D modeling) where the laptop would throttle like it does in Cinebench? I'm guessing, given the specs, not many. This laptop is not the right tool for that job.

Asus are killing the game. Dunno why anyone would buy any other brand at these prices.

Looks like a decent deal - I keep hoping that they have a sale on the Pro (non-DUO) models, but those seem to be near-list price still.

Cinebench uses CPU, not GPU. Anyone using video transcoding tools like Handbrake, FFMPEG will use all CPU cores for sustained periods of time. Also games use CPU + GPU and the entire package must remain under a certain thermal ceiling so games would definitely throttle the system. This is what benchmarks like 3dmark Timespy tests. With the Arc iGPU I imagine many people would try to game on this system.

The thing is if you're simply doing light workloads, older chips like 11th Gen Intel are going to work fine so just save your money if you're not going to use what the CPU provides.

This deal seems to be on a month, off couple months, same model, same price. Except open box prices have increased. An excellent is now like $650. When I first saw this in the summer, excellent open box was about $615, with free shipping available. I want it shipped because taxes are lower when shipped.

Update, currently available for $574 open excellent, free shipping. Maybe, this is the last round for this model.

The iGPU performance is on par with 1050ti max-q (4GB VRAM) even though it can access twice the memory, based on online benchmarks and my personal experience playing a number of games on a Dell 16 inch 2-n-1. Whether you call it a gaming laptop, it's up to you. But if you do want to play games with some regularity, you are better off with a 15-16 inch chassis for better cooling. But if you want portability, this is really light and you can game on it from time to time without draining your battery too quickly like a discreet GPU does.

AMD chips heat up pretty quickly and are quite slow compared to Intel. Saw reviews

I have this and don't recommend it. The screen is grainy at this resolution and the performance is bad. I have it driving two 4K displays over TB and there's constant skipping and stuttering and fan noise. Just showing a YouTube tab at 4K seems to challenge it. Running a game as simple as This War of Mine is a lost cause. Might have something to do with seven Asus services running in the background, or not. This machine has soured me on current Intel chips.

I wish I had that game for a test because my experience gaming with the processor is good, at about 1050ti max-q level. I have a 16 inch chassis though.

That is L I T E R A L L Y the opposite of what every laptop review says about any recent AMD chip, ever.
Hands down, for me, the iGPU in the AMD chips is what makes them significantly better for all-around use.
