FYI, Costco will be selling the I9-13900H / 3K OLED version of this laptop for $700 Nov 29-Dec 2. If you don't need a laptop immediately might be worth waiting:

You need to see the screen for yourself. I felt that the text is fuzzy because of the oled touchscreen. Google it. I personally would avoid any oled screen that is 1200p or lower. And no, I am not usually a pixel snob. I am currently using a 1200p with no issues with blurry text, but it is not oled.

If I was looking for a thin and light laptop for everything from office work, programming, content creation and casual gaming this would be my pick. The build quality is nice, the CPU is great, nice bright OLED screen and the battery will last as long as a macbook air.
Kudos to the good Dr. for working tirelessly to find us deals on all kinds of laptops.

review: https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/asu...led-ux3405
(review has 32GB RAM and a 120Hz OLED screen)

Pros:
  • CPU Intel Core Ultra 7 155H is a good balance of cost and performance. This generation of Intel processors uses much less electricity than the 13XX CPUs and should avoid the issues those CPUs had.
  • 16GB LPDDR5 is fast RAM for AI/NPU and integrated graphics.
  • Intel ARC iGPU integrated graphics is a big step up from older Iris iGPU.
  • FHD OLED touchscreen with 400/500 NITs brightness and 100% DCI-P3 color coverage.
  • Good keyboard
  • Nice port selection including HDMI, USB-C 4 (PD & DP) and USB-A.
  • Battery lasts up to 19 hours. USB-C charging.
  • 2.82 lbs.
Cons:
  • OLED screen is 60Hz. which may be a bit choppy for watching sports/action.
  • 16GB RAM is soldered so no upgrades. Probably enough RAM for now.
  • For more than casual gaming, you will want a discrete GPU.
  • Black Friday is just over a month away.
None of those cons would be deal breakers for me unless I wanted a midrange gaming laptop, but then I'd be looking at a very different set of laptops. This will work fine for casual gaming.

If you have My Best Buy Plus or My Best Buy Total membership, you should get 60 day returns. If so then you could buy this now and see what's available on Black Friday.

YMMV - Best Buy had open box Excellent ($621) versions of this available for shipping and open box Fair ($577) available in Pasadena, CA. As with any BB open box, best to pick it up in store and open it in front of an associate to confirm that the condition is acceptable.

NO.
LPDDR means RAM soldered onto the motherboard, no upgrades.

This is what we are likely to see going forward, especially with thin and light laptops. You get much better memory bandwidth between the RAM/CPU/NPU/iGPU meaning that the integrated graphics and dedicated AI chip can both use the system RAM rather than each of them having dedicated RAM. Soldered RAM is part of why the Apple M1-M4 series ARM CPUs perform so well and draw very little power.

Love it or hate it, it's the future because of how new CPUs (from AMD and Intel) are being designed. Just be sure to choose the right amount of RAM for your needs when you buy the laptop.

Do we expect a lot of discounts on the 155H laptops and their variants now that the Core Ultra 200v laptops are out with even better integrated graphics...?

You're seeing it right now with this one. Sure they'll go lower as they get clearance out. 155h graphics is ok good for light gaming. 200v is definitely better but will be priced high for a bit.

Last year 2023 version had the 120hz oled screen for same $699/750 sale prices with the 13700h processor (sales were always going on from June 2023-Dec 2023)
So not sure why they dropped the 120hz oled for 2024 in this price range

I think there is a visual quality difference between an OLED Touch and non-touch screen, with the former being less sharp because of the digitizer layer. My Asus Q410 screen looks fine and although it is a touch screen, I think it looks exactly what a 1200p screen should look like and think the text is fine.

I'm pretty sure Asus has a jar full of pieces of paper with features printed on them, and for new models they reach in and grab a bunch and its those seemingly random features that model gets. They make no sense. Their "Pro" models can have lower quality parts than their cheaper, non-Pro models. I don't get it. I got lucky with a closeout Q540 (i9-13900H, 3K 120Hz OLED and 3050 GPU) for less than $500 (open box but was perfect).
