Here is my personal price history for the last couple of years... of course I didn't always catch the really good deals.
2012 free
2013 free
2014 Prem+ $16.23
2015 Prem+ $16.25
2016 Deluxe $10.89
2017 Deluxe $14.95
2018 Deluxe $18.17
2019 Deluxe $21.89
2020 Deluxe $21.49
2021 Premium $24.97
2022 Premium $28.48
2023 Deluxe $24.99
2024 Deluxe $20.99
HOWEVER, if I look at the list of forms for Deluxe in 2024, it does not include Schedule E! The H&R web page also suggests Premium for rentals. I hate it when a company removes things without making that really clear. I am not sure if Deluxe will be enough for rentals this year.

And the IRS data breaches have nothing to do with their new filing software since it happened years before it existed. The IRS has all your data no matter how you file. If anything, their new software was built from the ground up with modern security in mind.
Is this the best price we can get? Any ideas? Moreover, what if I want to install it on more than one machine? (Not for multiple filing but I have a few laptops laying around and the one with all my previous regular H&R Block installons feels to be on its last leg)
All I want is to import the previous tax returns from old HR instances and then continue on new machine
But it doesn't do state taxes so not that useful for most people.

Do you suppose that it will work better than any other government bureaucracies like SS and is that who you want to deal with with something critical your taxes? The IRS is a revenue collection agency and has nothing to do with tax prep and maybe it is better they get their own house on order before taking on some other tasks they have no legal constitutional authority to do anyway.
Hopefully this program is shut down quickly as so many are finally tired of greedy and wasteful government agencies and programs and they may be coming to an end. I imagine the private sector systems could do what they do for 1/1000 the cost. The fact that they are still running floppy disks should tell you all you need to know. In a ten year period they have cost us 150 billion dollars of people's hard earned money and can not even set up decent computer systems.
Edit: Googled this and apparently what I did was the way to go: https://thefinancebuff.com/opt-ou...block.html [thefinancebuff.com]

.....so it is tax prep software, or nah?
These numbers do not scale at all.

Besides you are taking money from yourself, friends, neighbors and family. They do not do it for "free" The budget requires about $1,000,000 per return they do for "free". Yes that is one million and let that soak in, there is nothing "free" That is money that will be taken from people that work their butts off just to put food on the table and it is almost criminal waste of money. Not a good thing to support or recommend to anybody, as it is costing everybody dearly.
Why not fill your return with one for the real free options offered by multiple companies or spend the $20 for this deal. It will cost you and all of us literally millions less.
Let that sink in, and show them the error in their ways by having everybody use it, to drive economies of scale.
Help us all save money by making the govt more efficient.
Even if costs come down to say a modest $250,000 per return how is that better than all the free or low cost options options that are available to us all? What exactly is the problem that needs to be fixed? And how taking and spending more from the taxpayer going to save anybody anything?
