This is honestly a really good deal. It has an extra ram slot which is very rare these days. You could slap another 16gb in there for $20 and have a fairly powerful little laptop for $340.

Seems like no USB C dock support. I would have pulled the trigger if it did.

I know you said you won't upgrade it, but you could just buy this and have 24GB of ram for $340 total. It's super easy to add, so I'd just have the kids dad do it. https://a.co/d/7q9tksY
Can you? The manual states that you can only at 8gb extra ram for 16 total.

Oh its cheap thanks!
Haven't tangled in hardware for years besides cleaning my desktop once in a while but for $20 I can upgrade it for him.

Isn't for dual channel for both stick of ram to match? Perhaps things have changed?
Is this the max ram this laptop can have?
You sure this is exactly for this laptop cuz I might pull the trigger only $20.
Thanks again!

Dang seems you might be right, searched by the model from bestbuy 82QD00HMUS:

You want to get the cheapest go on eBay. Many people upgrading sell their puny 8GB sticks for like $15

The so-called 16GB limit is just what manufacturer tested for this model. In fact, it's not the real limit, and you should have no problem in plugging in a 32GB stick to have 40GB total. That's what I have tried in many Lenovo and ASUS laptops these days.

I just bought this one as a gift. Thoughts on how it compares? $20 less and 16Gb memory.

is 8 gb enough for gaming? I know 16gb is optimum but its gift so I wont upgrade it and family kid this is for won't know how to:
Also looking at $310 with 16gb ram but lesser cpu and cheaper(Same igpu?): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...OATGLMRT2M [amazon.com]
ASUS Vivobook 14" i3-1215U (6core, 8 thread) with 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 1080p, Wi-Fi 6, Windows 11 Home
8GB is is barely enough for Windows 11. Whether or not it is enough for gaming really depends on which game you want to play. But making it to at least 16GB is strongly recommended:
  1. More RAM is needed and always better for memory-hungry games
  2. Running with the soldered 8GB will only have the UHD Graphics. To enable the superior Iris® Xe Graphics, you will need to enable the dual-channel capability by adding another stick (either 4GB, 8GB, 16GB or 32GB, will run fully/ partially dual channel).
This upgrade will significantly improve the frame rate for gaming.

  1. The one your bought has a very bad bad viewing angle and dim 220nits TN panel. But this has much better 300nits IPS touchscreen panel.
  2. Ryzen 5 7520U is actually considered as a refresh of older architecture. In terms of benchmark performance, it's about 30-40% slower than this Core i5-1235U running in multi-core.
  3. The good thing about your model is that has already 16GB RAM (but soldered), but this one only has 8GB. As long as you know how and able to add a RAM stick, then it's not a real issue.
  4. It has a smaller 256GB SSD
In conclusion, this deal is much better in terms of quality and usability, provided that you will add an additional RAM stick.

This seems better in many ways (Biggest is the cpu 10-core/12-threads vs 4-core/8-threads) except the 8gb ram which needs a different purchase to upgrade.

Never heard of partial dual channel but again, haven't dwelved on hardware in years.
So a 32gb+8gb soldered will yield partial dual channel?
As I recall dual channel can give a lot of performance due to double bandwidth but wonder what partial dual channel means, im google it since as I recall it was either dual channel or not.

Just got the AMD equivalent of this laptop (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/leno...Id=6588662 [bestbuy.com]).

It's a little cheaper than this one. But no touchscreen, 16 GB ram instead of 8 GB. Bummer it doesn't charge thru USB C either. I've got a few old Lenovo chargers laying around (yellow rectangular), does anyone know if there's an adapter for this charger from the yellow ones?

Btw. Screen brightness is only 220 nits, which is fine since I never bring it outdoor.
The brightness might not be an issue, but the viewing angle is. You will notice the BIG difference when you compare them side-by-side (actually no need if you have ever used a TN panel).

Just take below for your information. Given the existing 8GB:
  • By adding 4GB, 8/12 GB will be running in dual-channel mode (partial)
  • By adding 8GB, 16/16 GB will be running in dual-channel mode (full)
  • By adding 16GB, 16/24 GB will be running in dual-channel mode (partial)
  • By adding 32GB, 16/40 GB will be running in dual-channel mode (partial)

By activating Iris® Xe Graphics and dual-channel, you will see the significant benefits anyway.

I have a 4 year old ryzen laptop with 4gb ram honestly up to 20 average tabs it all runs fine. Basic low end gaming is fine. Streams 4k youtube fine if very little else is asked at same time

I suggest not buying new intel products as they are an evil xompany

Question from a newbie, what's the benefit of USB-C power? Is it so that the charger can be reused between different devices and you don't need to buy something that's specific to a single device only?
I've had two cheap Chromebooks. One I stopped using after its proprietary charger failed, since it may have been $25+ to replace it. The other had USB-C and I was able to get a generic 45W charger for maybe $9 that I've also been using for tablets.

But I would be willing to get something like this if the price is right. Use until it breaks, then look at your options for replacing components (like the charger or battery), and see if it's worth it to you. It's probably worth spending 10% of the initial price to keep it running for additional years.

So yeah the manual says max tested is 16gb, but there's a 99% chance going to 24GB would work flawlessly id say. You could buy the ram I linked in the last post.
If you wanted to save a couple bucks and operate in true dual channel just buy an 8GB and you'd be good to go. 16GB would be a good total for this laptop
