Dewalt 20V combo with 3-speed hammer drill and 3-speed impact driver, 2aH and 8aH battery(!!) with high-amp charger and bag. This is very similar to the deal from Christmas Eve at Murdoch's that was cancelled for many, including me.

This worked for me earlier today with Lowe's In-Store hack (return free gifts).
I chose the planer ($229.99) and router $(219.99) to maximize the value of the returned items.
Require items in-store/in-stock and willingness to do in-person return.

Bonus points: additional 5% off with the Lowe's Card or additional 20% off with new Lowe's Card.

I personally did this 2 days ago, so it definitely works, as long as you buy in-store.
Buy the kit and the 2 most expensive "free gift items" they have in-stock, and confirm that each items is listed individually on the receipt. Then go put the kit in your car and return the other 2 items at the customer service desk. Roughly the same way you would do it at HD.
Were you able to do any additional discounts? 5%- 20% ?

Correct.
Additional question. Could I keep the free tools and return the drills?

It's definitely YMMV and dependent on the store or which employee is doing the return. My quick story...

Bought this kit, the planer and a router. Took it home, ran a few errands and decided to head to the Lowe's closest to my house. Went in with the planer and the router. Asked if anything was wrong, I said no. She scans the barcodes and says "This is in a 3 tool promo. I cannot do any returns on this without the 3rd item." Now, I wasn't prepared well enough (I should have read the return policy which clearly states the BOGO policy) and I probably should have fought it but I didn't. The best part was when I came back into the store with the 3rd item, there was another woman with her who may have been a manager looking at my receipt and interrogating me like a criminal. Annoying to say the least.

Anywho, YMMV for sure. I returned the whole kit not wanting to deal with the hassle. Otherwise it's a great deal for those that can do the "hack".

Very strange that you had that happen. The receipt shows no indication at all of a "BOGO" or a multi item promotion. At all. None. Just each individual item listed with its standard price and its discounted price.

I've done this twice now at 2 different Lowe's in my area with zero pushback.

Yeah agreed. Honestly, it's probably just this store. This store is odd and rarely ever carries these promo kits for whatever reason. I always have to go to a further away Lowe's to get them. Probably just the management.

Anywho, unfortunately I ended up going with the 279 deal for DCD1007, fast charger and 8ah battery since all I needed was the hammer drill for a project this weekend. Not a great deal but not a bad deal. Still I spent more than I wanted to. Oh well.

I like to think that I'm pretty savvy in the money saving department. Maybe it's because it's 9 PM on a Friday night after a long week, but I cannot wrap my head around how this deal works. I've never had need to use a "hack" like this before, but the one intrigues me.
So…If I buy the kit at Lowes for $400 and the 2 most expensive items are $225 each, I should pay $400 at the register and get the 2 others free, right? Does the receipt show the $225 prices and then show that the final cost was $0 for those 2? If so, wouldn't the return dept know I paid nothing for them? Please explain it to me like I'm 2. :-) Thanks

The receipt will show the normal price and the discounted price for each item. The discounted price will be the max refund per individual item.

Yes exactly. The formula to calulate the discounted per item price can be found earlier in this thread.

This deal is valid until 1/22. With the 8ah battery, and ability to pick up in store, I place this deal well above the equivalent deal from Murdochs last month.
