For those of you waiting on a better deal, be aware that the regular price has gone up from last year (49.99 last year vs 59.99 this year per my notes), so the same price may not happen this year. It might be a few dollars higher. I'm tired of waiting so I am getting it now.

Newegg has had a number of gift card deals in the past few months (example https://slickdeals.net/f/17897070-10-newegg-gift-card-email-delivery-5-via-newegg). I got two of them, totaling two $10 gift cards at $5 a piece. So I spent $10 on the gift cards, plus the $2.49 left over after the code, for a total of $12.49 net in my cost for the software.

I too, am waiting… The price will get lower as the month goes on and into February.

I have no idea how this made front page… This price is mediocre at best…

Once it gets to $15 and below then it may be a slick deal but right now it's just Meh.

I've used freetaxusa after taxact went greedy. Love that I don't have to worry about selecting the wrong software versions...deluxe/premiere/ultra/etc

Handles my tax situation : schedule C, brokerage, rental income, etc. And it's straight forward.

You only fill in when pressed. You come stating "free" when for the vast majority of people that is not going to be the case as you can see below and just like I theorized many have to pay it as they have no other option as they are so close to tax day.

TaxFreeUSA(TaxHawk Inc.) also lobbied to get certified by the IRS as free preparer yet upsell people at the last minute even if you go in through the government website as you can see in their reviews. Now we have a bad agency teaming up with a questionable corporation to help with surprise fees. See the reviews below it is common practice with them and there is no way to get your data off their site so you can try somewhere else. The company is so shady it uses three different names I assume to hide from reviews and again I wonder why you always are in every tax thread of any kind kind trying to push people into their clutches. You send people to them again by sending them to TaxHawk. Again I have to ask, do you have some involvement with that corporation?

You have very basic misunderstanding of tax law. It is implemented by Congress and that who has made the complexity. As we have seen the last few years they play around with it to the last minute and to the point that it has caused great delays in people getting their tax refunds. Software companies can not code new overly complex code into the software that already contains tons of complex tax code created by Congress and that has us waiting to the very last minute to get taxes done.

There is another problem as the IRS is incompetent, corrupt and insecure. They have computer systems so antiquated they still run on floppy disk even after billion dollar upgrades that they do not even know which computers contain our returns or data and here you are supposing they can fill them out. Even their own employees are tax cheats yet t get to keep their jobs. IRS agents regular peruse and leak tax information and you want them more involved in my life. It is an agency that has seized people businesses, homes and bank accounts for errors they made and you act like they are going to come in as some savior for you as I assume you want your taxes done like you order a sandwich with the press of a button.
FreeTaxUSA has higher BBB ratings that Block & Intuit, so I wouldn't use that argument. People generally only go there to complain anyway. Accursing the IRS of teaming up with FreeTaxUSA is absurd. And there are far more complaints about Intuit/Block scamming people with Free File before they dropped out of it. Heck, they even worked extra hard to hide the actually free version from search engines in order to steer people to the paid versions. This is the kind of shadiness that is unacceptable. FTUSA/OLT/CashApp/Direct File are all far more transparent with their upfront pricing. Despite that, I still point out the pros and cons of each piece of software as factually as I can, including the state e-file fees for various options, including FTUSA for $15.

And to directly answer your question - as I have stated before, I have no personal or familial affiliation or financial interest with any tax software preparation company. I've asked you the same, but you never answered. Do you have any personal or familial affiliation with or any financial interest in any of these companies?

Aso I can do Schedule C and E in TurboTax Deluxe. Can I do these schedules In HRB deluxe?
Yes you can print and mail for the cost of a stamp. Schedules C & E are also in HRB Deluxe desktop version.

H&R Block Deluxe + State, should NOT be posted here on SD unless it's below $20.

Only when it gets down to the $15 range is it truly rating a "Slick Deal"

Otherwise, this just gets people too excited, too early, when most don't even have the paperwork/PDF yet to even begin filing their taxes.

And then, all these H&R Block posts just invite the Turbo Tax people in to tell us how much better Turbo Tax is and how H&R Block looks like software from the 90's (Hello Word Perfect!)

...and to add more useless info to these H&R Block Posts - the FREE Tax Software folks will come in posting their links to the FREE Stuff...vs. just writing up their own thread.

Ugh...

I had Staples Rewards accumulating and I couldn't really find much to buy there that wasn't vastly overpriced. So instead, I got Staples to price match NewEgg's listed $30 sale price for HRB (Staples wouldn't match the coupon), then I used my Staples Rewards to pay for most of the rest. Not the slickest of deals, and maybe I could have waited for the listed HRB sale price at NewEgg or Amazon to go lower, but I have it now and don't have to worry/track the price. And I used up Staples Rewards on something I needed!

Unfortunately no. That is the one feature that Block and Intuit seem to have that none of the others do. But keep in mind that you can report all your short and long term capital gains in aggregate, so you don't have to manually enter every single trade.

Been using H&R for 5 years. I used Intuit before, but it became ridiculously expensive. I tried tax act and free tax, but they were so buggy at the time they would have filed my taxes incorrectly and not given me a good refund.

Code still working for me just now on Deluxe + State. I know $22.95 isn't the absolute cheapest, but still darn close and good enough to not have to worry about it later for a couple bucks.

This works pretty well but the design is 30 years in the past. I wish the Premium and Business worked on Mac but $45 is a good deal.
