I read the "firm" as the price is firm, not taking offers or trades.

Thanks, just looked back and my last purchase of a different brand was 10.50 for 2 lbs. Seems like a good deal to me.

Genuinely can't figure out the price difference, is this convenience based (pre-packed, pre-washed?) flavor/taste based? Or branding?

I recently bought medium grain white rice from my local H Mart, $11 for 15 lbs. Tastes fine but it's not the same quality rice.

Iris seems to sell a lot of stuff - hand warmers, plastic containers, furniture, and then rice....

This seems expensive for rice. Maybe the quality is better? They are claiming that it comes from a specific region in Japan and that means something.

$3 a pound for rice, gee thanks.

And when was rice made out of meat? Of course it's vegetarian.

Recently went looking in-store for <25lbs of sushi rice (25lbs of Calrose was $25ish.) We were especially looking for low-arsenic brown rice, which, yes, I know, is not "sushi rice." Came home with 5 lbs of Korean brown sweet rice grown in USA for $9ish. Google says this may be "Hyeonmi-chapssal" - sticky glutinous rice? Totally not sushi rice, I'm sure it'll taste fine to me.

Edit: for anyone in this very specific situation, 5lbs of brown Nishiki for $6.23: https://www.amazon.com/NISHIKI-Pr...B006SFAS6C

Anyhow, 3.3lbs / $10 seems reasonable for the convenience of not buying a 25lb sack of Calrose, which is a better deal per lb.

How do you know the rice is arsenic free?

I've been avoiding brown rice due to arsenic.

Poor choice of words: grown in USA == low-arsenic is the best I'm hoping for. We don't eat 5 lbs of rice in a year, so it shouldn't add up too much.
