It's entirely dependent on the state you live in that governs how the tax is applied. In CA, you get taxed on the full price of the new phone. In NY I believe you only get taxed on the difference. Spectrum simply follows what the state dictates.
Yes, I understand. In TX, we get taxed on the price after discounts are applied. But that depends on how the transaction is processed. If I order online, they may apply the exact $781 trade-in value back to the credit card after the trade-in is verified, but not the tax that I paid on that $781. It's unclear whether the partial sales tax will be included in the refund.
In person, if they apply the $781 toward the $1299 phone on the spot, I'll only be paying sales tax on $518, because it's all done in 1 transaction, rather than 2.

Spectrum will refund the tax.

I can confirm that in Texas they tax only the price of phone minus trade in value when done in person

Ah, I used a different browser with incognito mode fixed it. Yeah I just entered some random IMEI starting with 3.
Make sure you use the actual trade in phone's IMEI when you place the order, they do check when they receive the trade in.

Do I have to unlock the phones from my previous carrier or not required? I'm planning to get the moto tracofone deal from QVC and trade-in those phones. The only catch is that the phones will be locked to tracofone for 60 days. I don't want to risk waiting 60 days as the value of the trade in might go down. Any thoughts?
No unlock required, as long as its paid off, not blacklisted, or Find My locked

There appears to be a subtle distinction between trade in credit and promotional credit.

My interpretation of the TOS is that the trade in value is applied but the promotional credit are the monthly credits that you get.

For instance you could be getting $200 trade in credit and $700 promotional credit.

The $200 gets applied to your credit card and the $700 is going to be monthly credits that you forfeit when you cancel.
No that's not the case. Then entire amount is credited after they receive the trade in, assuming you paid for the new phone in full.

Has anyone placed an order? Have they sent you the trade-in label yet?
I placed 2 orders yesterday and have yet to receive a label. Last year they did send the label before shipping the phone.

Just order the phone and input your S20's info in the trade in section. Not much to it. They will send you a shipping label later for the trade in, just make sure you wipe/reset your phone, and make a video of you putting the phone in the box and wrapping it up, in case of any shennanigans.

I would not do this because now they are separating the promotional credit from the trade in credit. You could be stuck with that $700 promotional credit over 36 months. Better to wait for in store for instant credit. You can buy at walmart a Straight Talk Moto G4 24 for trade in for $30 https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/5243895448
But $700 promo might gone at the time of store release?
What is the return policy? We can buy online and return if promo spread, rather then credited in 1 time.

Rep told me a couple days ago that as the release date gets closer, an end date for the promo will be published. So the promo may be over on release date... or it may not.

You don't have to worry about the end date. These deals last for few months.

Hello, if someone may confirm
1. if we can order more than 1 phone on the same Spectrum internet account?
2. Do we require existing number to port into Spectrum mobile?
3. are people getting the same amount of trade-in credits as it shows after we share the imei details? In which cases the trade-in credit reduces?

Yes you can have multiple lines.
No port in required.
Yes I've done the same deal with Spectrum on a Fold6 as well as S24 Ultra in the past, got the same trade-in credit as originally promised. Just make sure your trade in condition is accurate.

I went through the process with my S20FE 5G and it gave me $774 credit.

Anyone know if Assurant will test my broken finger print sensor and reduce the trade in value?

This is a scam. They lock you into 36 month bill pay credits and you're buying the phone for $1300.

Worse, I was quoted $120 for my iphone when I called to verify the trade in value.

Very shady and misleading marketing tactics here.

I suggest everyone call and ask about the details of this offer.
Just do it in stores to avoid monthly credit

I wouldn't be so confident that they didn't change the terms this go round with the $700 promo credit being spread over 36 months. I've been doing this deal for the past 2 years and they probably realized how many ppl sign up, get the phone, then bail after 2 months along with the free upgrades from S24 to S24+ to S24U. They were dumb and it never made any business sense. Now they are probably getting wise and implementing the 36 month credit to retain customers as evidenced by the change in the fine print language.
