I'm not a gamer myself, but this system is significantly more powerful than a Raspberry Pi without a doubt. There is a Linux distro called Batocera.Linux (https://batocera.org/) that is supposedly a turn-key solution for turning mini pc's like this into gaming consoles. Besides that, this comes with an apparently legit copy of Win 11 Pro as part of the $130 price tag.

Anyway, if your goal is retro gaming, a Raspberry Pi is smaller and more energy-efficient for these types of tasks, but honestly, once you add in a case, a good power supply (RPi's are picky with respect to power...), and storage, it is probably at the same price or even more than this $130 machine. But if you are interested in more modern gaming or more powerful emulation, this system would be better and give you more flexibility for future upgrades.
Fyi check out Reddit minipc forum, some users mention that these effectively have ZERO warranty.

Just saying buyers might want to read up.
N150 is a minor bump-up from N100

I see. Thanks for responding.

This is the one I am using now. It has usb-c for another monitor. I am not sure that I should upgrade it.

I'm not sure this would be an upgrade for you. If you have a Ryzen 7 5800H in your current machine, that is signficantly more powerful than the N150. The N150 was only released recently so there are not a lot of hard benchmarks for it. But yeah, there are plenty for its predecessor, the N100. The N150 is maybe 10% faster than the N100. Anyway, here's a comparison between the CPU in your current machine and the N100.

Does this have an interal fan? I'm actually looking for a fanless computer to use in a very dusty environment. It will just be running an AS/400 terminal emulation, so very little CPU/GPU power needed. It just has to run modern Windows 11 without hurting itself.

Can someone please comment on G2 plus (https://www.amazon.com/GMKtec-Min...CDPDBX6/)? Seems to be the similar to the 16GB/512GB but dual LANs and 3 HDMIs. TIA

Yes, this thing has a fan coupled to heat pipes for cooling. The Amazon webpage only mentions this in one of the graphics. If you go to the GMKtec webpage, you can see pics of it. It is pretty much whisper quiet on mine. The BIOS has an option for manual or automatic control of the fan.

The G2 Plus is significantly smaller than the G3 Plus, and so, given that they have the same processor, heat may be more of an issue for the former. The G2 Plus RAM is LPDDR5, but it is soldered on, and thus, not expandable. The G3 Plus RAM is is DDR4, but it socketed so it can easily be expanded to 16GB and probably event 32GB according to many reports around the web. The G2 Plus has an onboard SATA drive in M.2 form factor, but that's it. The G3 Plus has an onboard PCI Gen3 NVME drive, but also has a slot for an M.2 form factor SATA SSD for storage expansion or an alt OS boot drive. The G2 Plus has a USB-C port, but IT IS ONLY FOR POWER DELIVERY. The G2 Plus has 2x HDMI and 1x DP to drive three monitors total, and the G3 Plus has only 2x HDMI slots to drive two monitors. The G2 Plus has 2x 1GB/s ethernet ports, while the G3 Plus has 1x 2.5GB/s port. Probably more, too, but these are big obvious differences.

For some reason, the link was wrong one. The one I have is Beelink Mini PC, Mini Computer AMD Ryzen 5 5500U(up to 4.0GHz).

For those who want a higher spec (50% faster RAM, 4GB more RAM, and double the SSD storage) for $33 more (flash deal at GMKtec via Walmart.com):

12GB LPDDR5-4800
512GB SSD

Hey guys! I have a few windows only apps that I have been looking to find a way to use since I switched over to Mac recently; would this todo the trick? I was looking at VPS solutions but I was thinking I could possibly get this and remote into it as needed…any thoughts on this approach with this mini computer

I just got G2 with N100 in November. I mainly purchased it because the G2 could run off USB C. I am running this thing 24/7 and I know eventually the power supply will die. eBay has a lot USB C power supplies from Lenovo's at cheap prices. The cheap power supplies that are included will die fast.

This GMKtec has a barrel plug which I think is hard finding a quality replacement such as one made by Lenovo. All the Amazon one's are 3rd party which don't last long.

For sure, 16GB RAM is the *officially* supported amount according to Intel, but there are lots of reports of folks successfully using it with a 32GB stick, too. In my experience, it is not uncommon that a manufacturer cites certain specs, but in reality, other specs apply. For example, I have been able to install 2x the *officially* supported amount of RAM my last three Dell laptops. And same thing with a current HP desktop I have--the limit is supposedly 2x16GB=32GB, but 2x32GB=64GB actually works.

Anyway, not saying that one should or should not do this--just commenting that plenty of folks have had success with it despite the *official* guidance.
I got the N100 for Black Friday upgrade ram to 32gb work fine no problem

I opted for 16GB MEM+512GB SSD for $30 more, and received mine last night. Reading all the horror stories about spyware/malware on minipcs from China, I determined to re-install Windows 11 Pro on my machine. Here's some key points that you need to be aware of if you decide to take this route:
  1. Use microsoft's tool to make a bootable USB drive with Windows 11: Under "Create Windows 11 Installation Media" in https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/s.../windows11.
  2. Download the drivers for G3 Plus from GMKtec's page: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/...detail_1.1
Note: You may run into the "download quota exceeded for this file" error with the zip file for the drivers. Here's how you can get around it: https://www.reddit.com/r/google/c...ed_bypass/
  3. Once 2. is downloaded, you should unzip it and then copy the unzipped driver directory to the bootable USB drive created in 1. That way, when Windows 11 installer detects that it can't find the ethernet/wifi drivers, you can simply point it to the driver directory on that USB. Note that once you specify the directory, the Windows 11 installer would automatically look into it for ALL missing drivers-- You don't need to identify where each driver resides in the driver directory.
  4. G3 Plus' BIOS by default boots from the USB drive if it detects it's bootable. This means that you can just plug in the bootable USB drive and the Windows 11 installer would run from the USB drive-- no tweaks to BIOS required.
By doing these, I had a very smooth re-installation.
Next up: Make a new partition in the SSD to dual-boot Linux.
BTW, I did set up the pre-installed Windows 11 Pro without connecting to the network, seeing if I could see the spyware/malware in action. I have to say it looked very clean; I didn't see any suspicious processes or services, or bloatware. I also did the virus scan a couple of times and nothing turned up. If I wasn't killing time while watching Grammys on the side, I probably would have left the pre-installed Windows 11 Pro alone.

Yeah it is. I just went down this rabbit hole and built a little box for exactly this purpose. The N150 should be fine with emulators up to PS1 or so.

My recommendation is to look into the $200+ range and there's some nice Ryzen setups with better iGPU and specs all around. A little bit nicer rig and you can play a decent amount of older AAA games. I was quite happy that I could run Halo on the tiny little Beelink I bought.
Did you use Batocera.Linux as the base OS or what do you recommend? I'm just getting in to this world but am looking to build something using hardware exactly as you've described, any guides or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for this info. I was thinking of putting a 32gb memory stick into it, gifting it to a student to learn programming.
