I think this is the model I want but still hoping it drops closer to $2,000 when the new ones hit the shelves

you can go for the open box deal if you have best buy total membership so it covers your warranty.

Any particular reason why the 4080 is the sweet spot ? Is it mainly because the 4090 is super underpowered on the G16 anyway that your not really reaping the benefits of the higher GPU in this particular chassis ? How much of a performance tradeoff is the 4080 vs 4090 in the G16 ?

In some ways I feel like given we're already spending 2K+ mind as well go big or go home sorta deal ? Perhaps the 4090 (and 4080 model for that matter) strikes a bigger deal the closer we get to the 5000 series launch ? The AMD models are all pretty much OOS save for the open box versions, but not crazy that we can only go up to a 4070. The 4090 Intel was on sale for 2850, but still feels like it might go lower since I feel like either Asus produced more of the Intel variants or people are just staying away because it runs HOT(!) 95C and is subpar performance wise compared to the HX 370.

Yes, the 4080 model with 32GB of RAM seems to have the best price-performance. Below that doesn't feel like a real gaming powerhouse anymore and above it there are diminishing returns.

I might try the open box option as OP suggested but have to look into the extended warranty and membership stuff which I'm generally opposed to.

Ok, I don't think this deal deserves a negative... it is truly the lowest it has ever been.... by $25. Haha. The previous pretty-much-same deals were all positive. However, I do agree that the price should drop even lower as the newer GPUs becomes available.

Well, if you buy it now, you get to enjoy it earlier. Seems that the biggest crowd already bought it 2 months ago and has been enjoying it.

But yeah, if the spec with Ultra 9 185H, RTX 4070, 16GB, 1TB becomes $1400 again, I'll probably just go with that. 32GB and RTX4080 are both nice... but I don't know if it is worth that much more. People also mentioned that the included SSD is... mediocre for a machine with this spec, so you may want consider the cost of adding a faster SSD.

I ordered this when the deal came back. It's been stuck on your order is delayed. They telling me it's back ordered with no ETA and will cancel my order in a couple weeks. Horrible customer service from Best Buy.
