I have this exact reel in size 8000. Just went crabbing on the surf this past Saturday. Doubled up on crabs (twice) using this reel. There will be some reel flex, but it definitely will work for crab snaring.

If you are snaring on the beach, you may have to walk backwards while reeling to keep the crab tightly snared during an incoming wave. But this will also help with the extra resistance that this reel struggles with when you are dragging the crab along the sand.

If you are just snaring from a jetty or pier, this will do the job with ease.

Not as great as the Daiwa BG or Penn Battle III on my other crab robs, but those also cost more.

Great intro level surf reel.

However, it is intro level. I primarily use the battle 2, 3 and 4 in the 5000-6000 size for sharks and rays. I do use this reel in a 4000 for the fish (whiting, spot, etc) that catch the sharks and rays.

At this price point it's okay. I got it as a combo for $40 about a year ago. Rod tip snapped on a whiting of all things. But the reel still works.

Had this reel in 4000 and it broke down beyond repair literally yesterday after just 10 months of use when I was reeling in 15-inch speckled trout.

Hmm wrath vs battle. Doesn't the battle retail for $20-$30 more?

Battle retails for a lot more. The pursuit doesn't retail for much more. Wrath is a better reel than pursuit overall. Battle is better than both.

Wrath is a garbage reel compared to the pursuit. Wrath is oil felt drag vs carbon fiber stack in the pursuit. Wrath 2 shielded bearings vs 4 sealed bearings in the pursuit. No reason to buy a wrath over a pursuit. New battles are great reels.
