Why not wipe the drive and use the filesystem of your choice? I would suggest against using any form of FAT, unless you absolutely have to.
I went to Winddows and formatted it to NTFS. Even after doing that, Easeus still shows that small 200MB FAT32 partition. Not sure what to do there

on the more recent 24TB thread, there are reports of people getting barracudas instead of exos -- via crystaldiskinfo.
can anyone on this thread confirm?

Just schucked mine and it's a barracuda.

Has Barracuda sticker. I'm sad.
Before either of y'all shuck your drives, you could have checked on Windows what kind of drive it is. Diskmgmt and Disk properties tell you the Disk model. You can then google it and see what it is. There is also Hard Disk Sentinel and any free partition tools that can tell you Harddrive info without needing to shuck it.
Hell even Task Manager shows you the disk model number. You can find it under the performance tab.

I checked both of mine on HD Sentinel to confirm its Exos before I shucked.

hey sorry to hear that you got the barracuda ones.
I have one on the way. I'm worried that I will be getting barracudas too.
Where did your order ship from? Mine is shipping from IL.

Thanks!

Where did your orders shipped from? My orders are on the way and shipped from IL.
I'm hoping my orders come from the same leftover inventory as the lucky ones who received the Exos drives.

Thanks.

Thanks for sharing which warehouse yours came from!

Barracudas are consumer while the exos are enterprise grade model that have longer lifespan with better performance has CMR while I think many wrote the barracuda uses SMR which is inferior.

Shucked. Same enclosure as you see on the YT video about the 16TB mentioned. So shuck from the face that has the logo.
Just ran quick smart and verify test from HDDscan

edit: purchased three, tested two. similar results on both.

I'd ignore it. Windows tends to put a small protective partition at the start of every drive, in case it later wants to put a bootloader or the like there.

So far, there is no evidence these big Barracudas are SMR. Only SOME Barracudas are SMR.

If users are receiving barracudas and wish to return, does best buy charge a restocking fee? The shrink wrap and tamper sticker will be cut if I plug it in to check the model with crystal disk.

My barracuda shipped from Chicago. I'm still keeping it because $11.67 is still good but I won't buy any more.

From the Best Buy website:

There is no restocking fee if the product is unopened, or if the purchase occurs in: AL, CO, HI, IA, MS, OH, OK, SC and where prohibited by law. The restocking fee will be taxed in select states.

Otherwise the returns fee is 15% of item purchase price.
