Paint one blade black and it reduces bird strikes by about 70%, according to the only study done trying to solve the problem. This was for giant wind turbines though, you might be better off painting two blades black with a smaller one. The idea is that birds experience a phenomenon called "motion smear" with neutral colored blades. Adding a contrasting color seemed to reduce this effect.

I have yet to see anyone really happy with any of these types of wind turbines, it seems like they are just a giant waste waste of space and money. Anyone see any good reviews or info to say otherwise. It seems like if your not going solar than water power is the next best thing to setup, and wind all the way on the bottom.

The problem is wind is far more complicated than solar, it's all about placement but you can't see where the wind is. The general rule is you want to be near the coast preferably (but then rust is a big issue), on a flat plain of land with minimal wind breaks, and/or above the tree line. The other issue is getting the voltage range of the wind turbine to be optimised for the inverter, as most inverters are meant for solar panels.
Being in Houston I did have a mad scientist thought about placing one of these a few feet above my AC units and scavenging the air moved by the units. But my HOA would see it and I'm moving soon so I'm saving that idea until we move.

These nearly identical 400w turbines are available for about half that from other sources on the same web site! I'm waiting for one to hit $80 or better yet, 1000W for $150 with good ratings.

Also, I'd much rather have a MPPT controller than an PWM anyway...

Unreal the HOA comments. Living in a state where they don't believe in taxes, the state reps couldn't care less that HOA and the HOA management companies are total pieces of waste. Murica 2025 and only getting worse.

My dad used a similar setup a good 20 years ago. He lived off grid in some coastal mountains, no reliable sun, lots of fog, and got great use out of it.

But, that was 20 years ago, solar tech has come a long way since then.

Can i parallel these in with solar? I have a PV combiner with 1 open socket. Could i plug this in for some night time watts?
