I'm done with them..... Google is doing too much weird stuff with them. Updates every few days followed by glitches or incompatibility.
eg.....Extensions don't work properly. Amazon website keeps stating that it does not recognizes my browser, that is not compatible or that I need to update it.
You HAVE to use Chrome Browser. Other browsers are only available thru their mobile version? Opera offer a weird hybrid browser.

However, alternative browsers are also available via the Linux sandbox. The primary limiting factor for that case with this particular chromebook would be the 4GB of RAM, which would seriously restrict the usability of applications in the Linux sandbox (not to mention the general operation of the device).
Good luck!

It is hard to imagine a cheaper new, retail Chromebook available. Gateway branding is probably the giveaway that you're getting just about the most you can get in retail at the given price (for better or worse). Unfortunately there are two critical compromises a buyer would have to accept.
- 4GB of RAM
- 1366x768 screen resolution
If there's a good news story here it is the CPU. The N4500 Jasper Lake CPU could help this Chromebook operate competently for basic browsing and/or in academic environments which have adopted chromebooks (see notes on performance here [chromeunboxed.com]). Unfortunately, this Atom-based dual-core CPU or the other associated RAM and display specifications ensure this won't support Chromebook Plus functionality... or really anything beyond the most basic operation (best case). This will limit the general usability of the system beyond basic, single-tab browsing and limited applications. This device will function, but expect challenges when pushed.
This was surely a key selection made to achieve the price point. As with 4GB, this doesn't make the device non-functional, but it certainly makes usage for content consumption and other applications challenging. Basic browsing or a web-based video conference will work... everything else will suffer in some way.
Good luck!

For as little as $50 more (after coupon), Costco members bought a Chromebook with touchscreen, a higher-performance CPU with Chromebook Plus support, 8GB of RAM, a 1080p touchscreen, and other premium features like increased storage. I realize there's a membership involved, but I mention it as but one example of the compelling options for Chromebooks that are 50% more expensive (basically, those at the $200 price point) but effectively a million times more usable as proper daily driver devices.
Good luck!

As for this deal, I remembered seeing the recent Asus Chromebook CX1500 deals with the N4500, 1080p, and 8 GB RAM. Although it is 15.6" and not 11.6", and it is a refurb:
