I just applied and got denied with an 820 credit score but with over 30 cards and 0 debt
Cons: Customer service is not as consumer friendly as Chase or Amex
$250 travel credit has to be spent through their terrible portal, which is just a Hopper re-skin and routes reservations through 3rd parties (my last was an Expedia reservation). Most costs for the portal are higher than if you have an account with 3rd party sites like Booking, Agoda, or Priceline and CapOne will NOT match a logged-in price. There is no telephone customer service for booking.

Pros: Eno vendor specific CC numbers with number cancellation and holds are great for online signups
2 points per dollar spent and direct reimb. for travel using points at 1pt=1c is essentially a 2% cash back card if you travel
No foreign tx fees (for those who travel internationally)

If you travel a little, it's a good card. If you travel more than 3-4 times a year, especially if your preferred airport has a CapOne lounge, the VentureX is a better product to have ($395AF), but this is a good stop gap with a solid bonus.
What's in MY wallet? Too many cards. That's what CapOne tells me every time when they hard-pull all three bureaus to deny me with 800+ FICO.

I don't like the cards with an annual fee…

Any suggestions, if we should open such credit cards and cancel them before the end of year 1 to avoid the next year's fee.

Should we do that each year, Amex, CapitalOne, then Chase, then BOA and a few more one bank per year, and then back to the cycle starting with Amex after 5-6 years?

Any suggestions?

I am just not a fan of annual fee cards and will close after the first year.
You can churn these cards, but you should not close the cards. Closing the card will affect the credit score.

1) Get annual fee cards
2) 4k spending
3) get sign up bonus
4) by end of year, 13th month, do product change to no annual fee cards
5) repeat step 1

I applied less than a month ago when there was no $250 travel credit. Is there anyway I can have them match the current deal? Thanks.

Approved for the card, but with a $2000 credit limit. It will take forever to get the sign up bonus at this rate. Is there an option to cancel and remove the hard inquiries on the credit reports ?

Same here for my dad yesterday with $2K limit High income zero debt and zero inquires on his credit for 4 yrs.

I disagree about closing credit cards affecting your credit score, in the long term anyway. According to credit karma, I've closed 13+ credit cards in the past 10 years. My credit score is still above 800. I can't imagine having product changed all those cards into no annual fee cards and keeping them open. So I personally don't hesitate to close cards that I have no interest in keeping.

Anyway, I just got approved for the Venture. This is my second time applying for it. I got denied when Capital One offered this same sign up bonus sometime last year. It really feels like a dice roll whether or not you get approved.

CapitalOne may offer $150 more than chase, but if you opt for cash rewards, CapitalOne gives you 50%, while Chase provides 100%. Also since CapitalOne is a Mastercard, it is not widely accepted as a Visa card.
Who doesn't accept Mastercard? Also, the Venture X is a Visa card, so not all Capital One cards are Mastercard.

Credit score 733, oldest card 2.5 years. 4 credit cards total. Just check, they approve me for venture x. Probably skipping this goes straight to the boss card

Does anyone know if I can use the card right away using the virtual card before I get the physical one?
If I get approved, I need to book a flight before the price goes up.

My account didn't let me use the virtual card until I activated the physical card. I was in a similar situation.

They asked me to upload drivers license. Do you need to both upload and mail in your driver's license or is upload good enough?
